Hook is the difference......

First, Hook is a good player. Second, she has improved, which means she has good practice habits, which in turn means she will probably continue to improve. Third, she is just more experianced.

She is playing really well. Her achilles heel is an athletic high pressure defender, but she is improving her ball handling and judgment under pressure.

it should also be noted that she has really stepped up since we lost whit and maddie.

I think if we finish 2nd, sherri will win coach of the year, not only in conference but possibly -- nationally. She is well liked in coaching circles.

Griner will win, and should win, POY in conference and nationally. She is just in a league by herself.
As opposed to Kim who should be in a conference or sport (or cell) by herself.

I have to agree. That 2009-10 final four team has some of the same attributes of this years team. They had Danielle, we have Aaryn. This could be one of Sherri's best coaching jobs of her career. Getting these kids to buy in, working hard to improve each and every week, and facing adverstiy head on and making the best out of a very difficult situation. I always believed that a coach of the year, (especially in conference) should be one that goes above and beyond expectations. If Kim gets coach of the year for the Big XII, there is no justice, because we expected her to win the Big XII, with the loss of four players, probably 3 starters, Sherri has driven the girls to excellence with a short bench and smart play and should be given consideration in my humble opinion. Man I really like this team.

No question this season has been one if not the best job that Sherri has done coaching the guys. But your belief that a coach that has the ultimate expectations (conference and national championship) be void of consideration for COY is faulted.

For the COY to have any legitimacy every coach has to have equal opportunity to win the award. You are eliminating Mulkey because she cannot exceed expectations is acceptable as your belief but cannot be the mentality of the voters for the award.

I fully expect Kim to win national COY if she wins it all. Probably the B12 COY too. If she does I feel she will have earned the awards as distasteful as it might be for those that detest Kim as a coach and person. Likewise if Sherri finishes runnerup in the conference she will have definitely done more with less and earned COY if given. Remember the media does not see Kim through the same jaundiced eyes as many Sooner fans. It is what it is.

Sherri has done an awesome coaching job this year, no doubt about it.

I've learned over the years that my opinion of who COY should be is usually vastly different than the people who vote on these awards. In any given year, I am much more inclined to give COY to the coach to accomplishes more with less than to coaches who have several All-Americans on their team. No doubt coaches like Geno & the Pat Summits of the coaching fraternity deserve accolades. But, my personal COY is usually someone like the Marist coach. Perhaps there should be two different awards, Recruiter of the Year and Coach of the Year.

They could have Coach of the Year (usually the one who wins it all) and Best Coaching Job of the Year (that could certainly include Sherri this year), assuming she continues to win and finishes in the top 15 or so.

...and maybe a "Best sit by a parent and chat aimlessly Coach of the Year"

While we're on the subject, Kruger should certainly be in the running for Big 12 COY.

Do Sooner fans see Mulkey through a particularly "jaundiced" set of eyes?

I'm not sure of what has been written in the Oklahoma media, but the most negative stories that I've seen about Mulkey were written by an ESPN pundit (Michele Voepel) and a Washington Post reporter, Sally Jenkins. Is that the national media that doesn't see Mulkey through the same jaundiced eyes as OU fans? Mark Anthony's eulogy didn't do any more harm than the articles by Voepel and Jenkins. "I came to bury Mulkey, not to praise her."

I haven't really seen the national media or coaches standing up for Mulkey. When great coaches are mentioned, I haven't heard Kim's name come up yet. I don't know that she will ever be the president of the coaches association, and I would be somewhat surprised if she got a dinner invitation from any of the top national coaches. I don't know that I've ever heard any pundit recommend that anyone play like Mulkey plays. I've heard what Geno teaches, or Pat teaches. But, when accolades are passed around, I see a greater tendency to shun Kim than to emulate her. I do hear her name mentioned at times, but it is usually in some lament about what is happening to women's basketball.

As I posted on another post, from comments made, I'm deducting that Little Miss Muffett isn't a Mulkey fan either!!! :ez-roll:
