How did OU beat Kansas St?

Apparently, playing at home in the big 12 means something. The bigger mystery to me is how did K St beat Missouri.

Unlike our pathetic performance on Saturday against Texas Tech, our kids shot a high percentage from the field, from three and the free throw line. Our defense was also solid for most of 40 minutes, something we had only seen in brief periods or in a half in our other games.

I think it's safe to say that the K-State game was our best performance on both ends of the floor all season. And, as Gary said, it helps to play on your own court.

We were at home. KSU shot terribly. They missed a ton of open shots in the 1st half.

I think Blair finally getting a start paid off immediatly. He scored or assisted on the first 3-4 plays of the game, getting the crowd into it.

haverhill! it is fantastic to see you here.

K-State is challenged offensively. But they are relentless in rebounding and chasing loose balls. I didn't see their game against Missouri but I suspect they punished the Tigs pretty bad inside.

We did a good job of making K-State shoot shots they have a hard time making and controlled the three point shooters. Had we rebounded better it would have been a rout.

Of course hitting our shots was key.

We beat Kansas State because we are equal to them. Pure and simple. If not for the blown lead @Cincy OU & KSU would have equal records of 2-3 Big XII, 13-4 overall.

This is no shock. We have equal talent and coaching and that will only improve in the coming seasons like it has over history.

Flip side of how we lost to OSU. At OSU, we couldn't hit an uncontested layup or free throw. During KSU, we could kick it in. If you don't turn the ball over and are roughly hold your own on the boards, basketball is pretty simple and amounts to a game of shooting percentage.

Forced turn overs, played good defense, got some easy baskets, had good ball movement and shot well.

OU looked like the better team in virtually all phases of the game except reboundings. KSU did a very good job on the offensive boards. Had KSU not worked on the boards like they did, they would have lost by 30.

OU is a solid bubble type team. If the rankings went to 100, they should be ranked in that 40-60 range. The biggest weakness is OU lacks depth. If Tyler Neal is not hitting his shot, OU really only has 6 guys that can produce points and one of them is a low scoring pg that is good for about 5ish a game. Osby, Fitzgerald and Pledger are all capable of scoring big points and dominating a game. I suspect Cam Clark has some of that in him too but he is just a sophomore and we really havent seen it much yet. Carl Blair is a kid that plays hard and can score some points but sometimes he is a low percentage scorer. After the 7 guys mentioned, OU has three post players that a limited role players. They can give minutes, rebound and defend a bit but they are unlikely to score points and none of them are dominating defenders.

Luck was not in play for that game. KSU turned the ball over a ton leading to easy shots, letting OU gain confidence. OU was the better team that night.
