... and by that I mean, how many of you attend the games and/or open up your checkbooks for the program?

Obviously, the first question is for those of us that are local, the second is for everyone else.

Everyone on a message board has an opinion, and mine is that if you dont support the program in one or both of those ways, you're not really entitled to your opinion. You dont get to be mad at Joe C because he hired Toby Rowland or Jeff Capel, you pretty much get to sit back and watch. You dont get to participate unless you "participate".

I've probably just angered 9/10 of the board, but seriously.. as I sit among 1499 other fans watching a non-conference basketball game (or 4000 in a good year), I often wonder where the support is, and how arrogant are we to expect a great product when the fan support is so pathetic? The truth is we dont deserve a great coach/program based on our track record the last few years (more than that really).

This program has been better to us than we have to it. Everyone wants to talk about how to get back quickly, and at least part of the answer is fan support. It helps in recruiting, it lights a fire under teams butt, and it even helps in landing a "great" coach.

Kinda all over the place, but you get the drift.

Fire away.

I don't disagree, but this would be take #78,926

I can't disagree with you at all.

I'm a donor but we have football season tickets. I used to have basketball tickets but dropped those when I moved a long way from OKC. Now that I'm in KC, I'm still too far to make more than 1 game per year so buying season tickets doesn't make sense for me.

I've said it once today already...I don't get the complaining about Rowland being hired as PBP. I'd rather save the money on the PBP guy and spend more on the basketball coach.

I went to every home game and several road games in college and I go to a couple games a year now (I moved to Tulsa). Is my opinion valid? Is there a certain number of games that I have to go to to be considered supportive enough?

P.S. I do donate to the business school. I assume that doesn't count, since I am not sending donations directly to the basketball team?

P.P.S. I agree that OU fans have not supported the program enough, but frankly the last two years have alienated a lot of fans. The student section was rocking, when I was in college (2000-2004)

LOL that certainly counts.

I coulda swore state tax dollars were spent at OU. Guess I was wrong.

Been attending games in Norman since I was in the womb.
Been a member of the Tip-In Club since 2001.
Until family troubles this year, had attended every Big 12 Tournament since 2003.
Have attended at least one true road game every year since 2001.

OU BBall is #1 in my eyes. I value its success over any other squad named Sooners.

Student section? What is that? Do we still have a student section? :ez-laugh:

I have football tickets, so I guess I donate to the overal athletic department.

That said, I think that is a silly way of looking at things. Not everybody is in a position to go to games, or donate money. Some of those same people may be some of the biggest fans OU basketball has.

I have never been a fan of the "real sooner fan" discussions. This just feels like another version of it.

so we can't have an opinion or be a fan if we don't financially support the program? interesting. me thinks you are just trying to toot your own horn. Hey look at me!

BOK, yes that certainly counts and I should have stated that, props to you.

coolm, for you to give advice on someone repeating a "take" is pretty funny... you know that whole pot/kettle thing?

Silly old man.

You're alienating a lot of people though. Like me, I'm about 800 miles away and while me and my wife do fine financially, we can't come up to Norman all too often. Last year I attended 3 football games, but didn't make it up to see a bball game. Typical, I know, but I don't think we should say that the only fans that are allowed to be fans are the ones who "participate". Then you have to define "participate"...Is it purchasing a PPV game, a t-shirt, paying state taxes or what? I hate this debate. That's like saying the only people that should vote in political campaigns are people that make over $100K.

Hey now, the 50 students that still attend games are really into it.

I just put up the attention whore thing after someone made a comment.

No, I'm really not. You could also attend a game or 2.

I'm saying if a person cares enough to ***** and moan on a message board, they should consider caring enough to do their part (however small it may be) to help alleviate the problems.

I think this might have been the better wording to open up with. I agree completely.
