It struck me that OU played good defense and worked hard at offense. My take was that this was our regular quality game this year. Missed some shots and didnt guard the three point line but that's about the regular performance. This is a game that defines our median performance. We'll have outstanding games from time to time and North texass games, too, but this is our 2016 standard.

OSU shot 50% from 3 and they aren't a good shooting team....
The difference is- I think we are a good shooting team that just hasn't found its consistency yet. We have stretches. Were obviously not going to shoot 50% very often (like they just did) but we are A LOT better than 25% from 3. A whole lot better than that.

Had I been in Sherri's shoes, I would have told them to sag inside to help stop the inside game of OSU that had killed us in the first half. They had only survived three quarters because they were shooting lights out from inside.

But, Jensen, who had been 3 for 11 this year, hit a three.
Loecker, who had been 6 for 25 (24%), hit a three.
Coleman and Jones are good three point shooters. But, they aren't three for three shooters.

If we were to let OSU shoot threes unguarded, I don't think they could match their fourth quarter performance. It happens.

I think the thing that hurts the most is we didn't play THAT bad. I honestly thought that if we just had an average game we win by 10.. thats whats frustrating here. You can see why we lost, Its not hard to score on somebody that is worried about fouling you. They shot well. But we also had some benefits, they were in foul trouble, we shot well in the beginning of the game- at the half we had Peyton, Gioya, and Maddie all with double digits. I thought we would win every game those three scored that much... I was wrong.

Worth noting I suppose that Maddie is still running around a little gingerly on the foot- her at full strength would obviously make a big impact

This... four low percentage 3 pointers late by these three and Jones. Just some bad luck down the stretch.

k. I figured out why we really lost though cause I didn't think there was anyway we could lose to them endless we had terrible stats..

I could only listen on radio- Watched the game- Those refs were terrible. OSU is a really physical team and they were allowed to play that way, we kept getting called for tick tack fouls... How bout that blocking foul against Maddie where that girl bulldozed her? ha. one of several examples. U can't beat a physical team when your getting called for all the tick tack and they can hammer you- just too great of mismatch. Thats unfortunate, could of lost us at least 3rd place.

Tell u what tho.

We went from a team you could get physical with and dominate- to a really tough team. We aren't built to be as physical as OSU but we certainly didn't back down. My favorite play of the game was VV's tech. She's a dog man. We got a lot of dogs- Gioya, and TT ect. Think thats been our main problem for a while, we had soft teams. Even Maddie and Peyton u shove them, they shove u right back. I really love that.

To say nothing of the clean block Maddie got and was called a foul. Had we been the KU men at Allen Field House, all of the calls in the calls would have gone our way in the 4th quarter.

Having said that, we could have withstood their miraculous 3's if we had hit the free throws we did get.

The first half was a lot of very close and layup type baskets from Jensen and Coleman our bigs made OSU bigs look like All Conference. Not to take anything away from the OSU girls, but besides their weight they really have nothing on our girls. Vivi in the second half kept Jensen at bay for the most part unlike KK and Vivi did the first half. Maddie trying to guard Coleman in the first half was a big mismatch, but then playing Maddie at the 4 will cause that problem against girls with strength and size. take care of business with rebounds and free throw and we still win the game, but we did neither so it was close and we end up on the short end of the stick @ home. We play like this against Baylor and Texas we have two more home losses.

Maddie was rarely guarding Coleman. On defense, Maddie spends most of her time out front---away from the basket---playing "deny" with the guards. It has often led to turnovers as they tried to get inside. How many turnovers have been generated in the past couple of games that never got inside? I think when Maddie is playing Chase, Gioya was on Coleman.

Coleman did try to guard Maddie---fouled out. Notice that we got into the bonus rather early in the fourth quarter because they called three fouls early on the defender trying to stop Maddie out front?

ha. Now that is funny.... Our bigs gave up 24 points and 11 rebounds to one player last night and you make the case that we need to put another one in because "we have a mismatch". That "mismatch" had 9 pts. Then the rest of the team not named Brittney Martin had less. The only glaring mismatch other than Jensen vs. all- who had the best game she will probably ever have- Was Coleman on Maddie, she would shoot back 3 steps everytime Maddie put the ball on court. Those are the games Maddie will score 30 once she starts shooting well again.
