The beginning of the end?

I grow tired of the "if we had fans in the stands every game this would all be totally different." How? Porter will actually be a good coach? Every time the fans show out even, pm lays the biggest egg. IMO pm would not go to games coached by pm.
You don't think a crowd has a massive effect on a basketball game?

I mean I do agree that PM has had great crowds in some select games and has failed to take advantage of momentum.

I also agree that we’re never going to fill up against the Central Arkansas’s of the world. The crowd for A&M was embarrassing, though. Was it the difference in the game? Who knows. But it was pretty sad even with the blowout loss the game before.

We need to find a way to get the fanbase less apathetic. I don’t think a new coach solves that. A new arena may help for a bit, but I think the issue is more than that.

Could not agree to massive. An effect, sure. But I think pm is a minus coach so he would negate any theoretical gain.

You spot pm 18 against a&m and even that still is not enough
How do you think they got to the 18 point lead? His gameplan had nothing to do with that?

His bench player went off for 30 something. Leading porter to not ride that player hard enough imo. I would have barely taken him out of the game and would have likely even started him in the 2nd half fwiw.

It was a great game plan. There was a reason he was open every single time. Now, A&M made the adjustments and ended up fixing the hole in their defense, but for the first 15 minutes, Porter's staff absolutely worked them with a great game plan.

We can argue minutes and rotations for sure. And the result just wasn't there in the end. But you can't make an argument that the initial game plan wasn't masterful.

In true Moser form, he played Goodine more mins against Georgia in his 1-7 game than he did against A&M.

Explain to me what you perceived the "game plan" to be if you will. I'm curious

It was pretty simple, actually. Get the ball to the middle. Move it to the wing. The opposite wing was wide open. The announcers were talking about it the whole time. It was obvious to anyone watching. Did it help that Goodine couldn't miss? Of course it did. But the offensive plan was perfect against the A&M defense and they executed it perfectly for the first 15 minutes.

Softball used to have essentially the same sized following as baseball. Then the run started. Those people who jumped on the run will leave just as quickly as they arrived when things, inevitably, go south.

I think you're well off the mark. Before Bud Wilkinson, OU football was not yet the monster success it became, but at no point since Bud retired has attendance dropped to a few thousand people. And there have been some dismal seasons over that span.

Your suggestion that no lasting enthusiasm has been built among the fanbase by Coach Gasso's historic success (which might fairly be compared with Wilkinson's) seems, I have to say, almost petty. Why is it so hard to accept that the number of diehard OU softball fans--fans who will be there through thick and thin--has increased significantly over the past quarter-century?

It is certainly not theoretical. The betting lines show that playing at home is worth a hand full of points in every sport. Basketball tends to be the largest home court advantage due to the officiating. Some home courts and fields have an even greater advantage. Ou basketball has to be one of the lesser advantages in p4 due to the design of the arena and lack of fans.

Here's the thing. I love what Patty has done and I don't want to minimize it. So I don't want to get into an argument about this. But I do not think there is a real wave of softball fans that won't go away when times get tough. I don't have that kind of faith in the OU fanbase. I think the majority of what we see is chasing a winner. And that's sad to me. It's sad that it takes fielding championship teams to have a decent fanbase for sports at our school. Other schools are not that way.

Just can't win with some fans.
You have the most backwards arguments lol.

Dude goes out and lights it up and earns more minutes and you complain about it?
figures.

If he wouldn't ahve played him more minutes you would be bitchign about him not playing him enough

Porter game plans always seem to get us open looks for the first 10 minutes or more of a game. Even against Alabama we had many trips with open looks at the beginning of game. For me I think he does a good job at that.

Now in game adjustments (strategy) and in game decisions( timeouts, subs) can be criticized. He generally seems a step behind his opponent coach on these.

Oddly, OU has the seventh highest home court advantage per KenPom.

I don't believe OU will fire Moser. They don't have the money to afford any buyout for him, given they may have to pay BV's (and staffs) buyout, as well.

If it has to be done they'll find the money. Although, it's super annoying that they can't find money for other things like NIL and a new arena.
