Huge visitor news for October 23

Hmm.....I'm right down the road from Desoto right now. Maybe I should pay him a visit. Tell him it's OU or else. lol

YES! Got the 2:30 gameday so campus will be bumping, not too early either. Can hang with the team and go see the game. Man I hope we can get this kid, but trying not to get my hopes up...

Would be cool if OU did a scrimmage that morning, say around noon, that was heavily promoted with some sort of giveaway gimmick to get fans in the LNC or more preferably the Fieldhouse.

Looks like we're his first official. That can be good or bad.

No, he has already taken officials to Kentucky, Duke, and Kansas. That was his 2nd visit to Duke, and he was at Late Night in the Phog (1st practice for KU). I think OU and Alabama (Avery Johnson) are his last 2 visits.

Listen to this interview: Bolden's visit plans

I hate to say it, but I wonder if we wouldn't be better off not holding a scrimmage that day. We don't always get such great attendance at those events -- might do us more harm than good.

And I say that as someone who doesn't like to harp on our attendance issues (I think they're overblown, and it's certainly true that we're hardly the only school dealing with them), but I'm just trying to think in practical terms about how we can best showcase ourselves for a high-end recruit like Bolden.

Your point is a good one, skyvue. But I'm not sure holding a scrimmage during Bolden's visit will matter all of that much.

He made it clear in the interview usedtobe1 posted that he will not make a decision until January or February, which likely means he plans to do a thorough evaluation of all of the teams on his list before the late signing period in April. It may come down to how well OU performs in the first three months of the season, and how Bolden feels he would fit in with the players on our roster in 2016.

My hope is that he and his parents will feel right at home during their visit, and that staying close enough for them to watch him play will give OU an edge the other schools on his list can't match.

An 11am scrimmage at the fieldhouse would be great! I'm already used to being in town by then and the cozy confines of the fieldhouse would make even a small crowd look big.

I think this works perfectly for OU. I know normally Kruger doesn't like to wait around on a recruit, but for this class I believe he has that luxury. We aren't in on hardly any recruits and don't have a need now that we've moved on to addressing our future pg in the 2017 class. Now Kruger and co. can go all out for Bolden and hopefully a few of our competitors fill up their classes in the meantime.

I also recall McGusty saying in an interview after his and Freeman's official visit to OU that he was/is planning to come back once again on yet another unofficial on the w/e of the 10/23. Coincidence that it is the same w/e as the Bolden visit? Hmm. would be great to have him there for the Bolden visit.

Great recall. I had to look it up. That weekend will be McGusty's 5th visit to OU. It can't hurt our chances with Bolden to have another top recruit so enthusiastic about OU.

Oklahoma’s two highest-rated commitments for the 2016 class, which is the highest-rated under Lon Kruger, met for the first time this weekend, and it couldn’t have gone much better (Kameron McGusty and Matt Freeman).

“We’ll be texting each other until we get to Oklahoma,” Freeman said. “That’ll be good because we’ve got contact now, and it’ll be good to just build that relationship before we even get to campus.”

McGusty is planning a trip back to Oklahoma on Oct. 23, but Freeman said he won’t be coming back until January, when he comes over for good. Freeman all but guaranteed that he’d enroll at Oklahoma in January, practice with the team and sit on the bench to take in everything he can from the Sooner’s senior veterans.

This past weekend’s trip – the first for both since their commitment – had a different feel aside from visiting campus with another highly rated future teammate.

“It felt really different,” said McGusty, a four-star wing. “When I got there, I felt like this is where I belong. This was my home. It was just a different mindset you have going in. . . . I was very relaxed. I just felt like it was home. They say the third time is the charm, but shoot, this was my fourth time, and I’m planning on going up there again.”

I've never had so much fun in one weekend man
