I believe we will go to the NCAA Tournament this year

i bet they aren't.

Yea.... sure, they went 23-11 (10-6), return everyone, and added the #1 recruiting class in the conference. Including the #1 juco in the country (Ratliffe), the #61 overall player (Pressey), and the #12 overall player (Mitchell).

You guys are right, thats probably not worth 2-3 more wins in the conference (which puts you at about 12-4 or 13-3).

Those are good points IndySooner. We need to be patient with this team this year. None of us have any idea how these guys will come together, but hopefully we will get to watch a real team this year. As long as they play hard and act like they care about the game. I'll be happy. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

they lost 3 starters, which included their best 3 defenders and both guards.

they should be solid, but i'd have a hard time arguing that they have better talent than ku, bu, ut & kstate. maybe better than a&m, but that could go either way.

why are you the only one in big12land who's convinced that white for isu and mitchell for mu will be available this year?

I will take Mike Dixon and Phil Pressey over JT Tiller and Zaire Taylor. Those guys were very limited offensive players.

People seem to find a way to become eligible. I always assume players will be cleared until they aren't.

in a year or two, yes. as a soph and freshman compared to tiller and taylor as seniors, i don't agree.

the ncaa changed the requirements this year, being eligible is significantly harder, so past results may not be the best guide. and of course white's case has nothing to do with academic elgibility. i can't see how he has much hope.

Yea, we have a full roster and Capel was saying that OU was going to sign more than one player. That led me to assume that Calvin wasn't going to make it.

Maybe Capel was making that assumption as well?

Calvin Newell
Cam Clark
Carl Blair
CJ Washington
Nick Thompson
Andrew Fitz
Steve Pledger
Abdul Ahmed
Kyle Hardrick
Tyler Neal
Romero Osby
Richard Peters

Thats 12 players. Which means that you can sign one more, right? Well, we had a player not eligible at the time and the coach was saying he would sign more than one guy.

Seemed like a safe assumption in that case.

So why did you automatically assume the worse case assumption for Calvin while you are assuming the silence by Hoiberg and Anderson are good for White and Mitchell?

I just spent a decent amount of time explaining that in unbelievable detail.

No, I am asking why you are givin them the benefit of the doubt when you assumed the worst on a Sooner. I understand the logic on Newell a week ago, I had my doubts as well. I just find it weird that you find the light in the darkness of Mitchel's and White's eligibility issues. I haven't read anything recently pointing to the likelihood of either being clear just like Newell was a week ago.

That's easy... I haven't heard anything that makes it sound like they won't make it. Capel saying OU is going to sign multiple players with a full roster gives you reason to doubt. But, there hasn't been any information (that I have read) to hint either way on those other guys, so I just assume they are going to make it.

They may not, but players somehow seem to get eligible. The only reason I doubted Newell was because of the Capel quote.

How could White possibly be eligible? He is a redshirt freshman transferring to another D1 school, because of discipline issues. I don't remember seeing the NCAA grant that waver in the past. Even ISU fans are putting his clearance at about a 1% chance.

Just to echo what IndySooner said above, Zepp, please do not turn this into a deal where you get fired up about some unknowns and then blame the coach for a crappy season. I think the majority of fans are expecting a tough go of things this season, but are hoping to see more toughness and improvement from the team. I think that is a fair expectation.

Didn't we beat Mizzou and OSU (and Texas) with our worst team in 40 years last season?

Did it ever occur to you that Capel may be signing multiple players in the highly likely case of player transfers? I guarantee there will be at least 1 transfer from our team, a player who we may have reached on during the mass exodus after last season. I have no idea who it will be, but it will happen.

If there was ever a time for Capel to (over)sign the best possible players he can and sort it out later, it would be this season IMO

I'm betting that there at least two guys that leave the program after this season, no idea who those guys might be or what the reasoning will be, but there will be at least a couple.

In fact, I think with just about any program you can assume a transfer attrition rate of about two players per year. I bet we try to sign two or three players in this class.

Wait... I thought Ford was the only coach to over sign players.:ez-laugh:

You never know the year OSU went to the Final Four they were picked to finish 7th in the league. Does OU have a John Lucus and Joey Graham coming in next year? We will find out in a couple of months.

The problem is that both Lucas and Graham had D-1 experience coming in AND were playing with Tony Allen and Ivan McFarland (whom I thought was a tough player for the bad guys). Who were the other players on that team? I can't believe I've already forgotten. Stevie Graham I remember, Joe Atkins?
