Ya maybe he used his cell phone too much....I don't really call that "cheating" it's not like he paid recruits to play for OU....the man could really coach...did we ever have a losing season under him? Players played hard and put forth so much effort...his teams always had alot of heart. We need another hard nosed blue collar coach like him to bring the program back to where it belongs...flame away!

It's a damn shame because Kelvin would have won a national championship with Damion, Scotty, Blake, Taylor, Tony and AJ!!!

People complain about the guys that have transfered under Capel, but not 1 is even close to the talent that has transferred under Sampson...why not talk about Lavender, Alexander, Humphrey, Mckenzie, etc...

I won't hate on anyone that likes Sampson more than Capel...that is anyones choice. But to Imply that his team had more heart than Capels teams is just ridiculous.

Agree. It would be ridiculous to just imply it, as it should be said straight-forwardly.

Sampson's worst W/L record at OU was 17-13, and that was still an NCAA tournament team. He only missed the "Big Dance" once at OU ('03-04).

They usually overcame the transfers of the aforementioned players just fine - and some of those guys either got bad advice (like Humphrey) or had academic issues (Alexander, for one) that weren't Kelvin's fault.

I never saw his teams put lack of effort on the court like Capel's teams last year and this year have JMO

That team from 03-04 still made the NIT at least

Don't kid yourself...Capel would have won a NC with those guys too.

You know that old saying, "He'll take his players and beat your team. Then, you can switch players and he'll beat you with your players." That would apply to Kelvin & Capel. If by chance a Kelvin Sampson coached team played a Jeff Capel coached team and both teams were absolutely equal in talent, Kelvin's team would win 8 out of 10 times. Heck, Kelvin's team would probably win 6 out of 10 if his team had less talent.

Agree 100%

The last few years of the Sampson era were very hard to endure. Not just because of the "phone calls." The final few years of Sampson was simply bad basketball.

However, he put together some damn good teams when he was here, and he didn't have Blake Griffin to carry those squads.

I don't care what any of you say. I want Gillespie if Capel doesn't work out. Screw it, I'll drink a few hundred beers with the guy while he leads us to the final damn four.

None of Kelvin's seasons were hard to endure after the last 2 years. Kelvin's worst year was 2004 the NIT season, was better than the last 2 years.

Kelvin's Record vs Top 25 teams: 38-47 .447 with multiple wins over the #1 team in the country.

Capel's record vs Top 25 teams: 9-31 .225 with a total of 2 wins vs top 10 ten teams; 2010 vs #9 Texas & 2009 vs #10 Purdue

Jesus Christ, how many of these stats have we come up with the last couple of weeks to show how bad it is right now. They keep getting worse and worse. The best stats he has is his post season tournament record. He's .500 in 12 games.

I always liked Calvin and was disappointed when he left.

Who would have thought two years ago after our team walked off the court after having been defeated by UNC that the following two years would have been like this.

From Billy Tubbs' second year 81-82 through Kelvin's last year 05-06, OU was in the post season every year. That is 25 years in a row. Under Capel, we have failed in 3 out of 5. The irony is that if you have some hope that this will change next year with the same guys on this year's roster, then you are on are on another planet.

I would still take 5-6 over JC. Stats can be misleading. lol

Why did you include years 1,4, and 5? Do you have an agenda?
