The guy plays 40 minutes every game...

Signing a backup point guard has to be a priority for Capel during the spring signing period. Originally I was fine with TJ Taylor being the backup next year but I don't really know enough about TJ to know if thats a good role for him. He seems like a scoring guard more than a point guard.

OU has had games with great starts and good spurts, but they can't sustain runs or defend long enough to win and its because (in part) guys at key spots can't come out of the game. Now, there are other reasons why OU is not winning but I think this is one reason.

If OU had a guy like Omar Leary playing just 10 minutes a game I think it could do wonders for TMG. Someone that can come in and be steady, hit some shots, and not do anything stupid. That basically describes Omar Leary.

With that said, if Willie comes back it will be less of an issue and there will be less pressure on TJ Taylor to provide that role right off the bat.

Agreed...if we could add these three players, I think we're back in the top 5 of the league next year:

back-up PG
Athletic/defensive center
Post player with quickness to run in transition or guard hybrid 4s.

I agree with the points you made, bigabd. Young and in shape or not, fatigue has to be a factor when someone plays 40 minutes in every game and rarely gets a blow. The fatigue may be more mental than physical in the case of a point guard who is constantly pressured by defenses from the opening tap. But, when a mind, a body or both get tired, that's when mistakes occur. It may be a brief lapse in concentration that leads to a bad pass or shot or a poor decision that results in a turnover. But all take their toll and have an impact on the game.

Judging by everything I've read about T. J. Taylor, he can swing to the point. Maybe someone who has seen him play can confirm those reports? One thing is certain, Coach Capel has to make sure that TMG is not forced to play 40 minutes again next year. That may be fine for a few games. But logging 40 minutes in every game for an entire season has to wear a player down physically as well as mentally. There is no way that can be good.

I have been saying it for over a month OU needs another point guard. I wonder why OU didn't offer K.C. Ross Miller, does anyone know? Also, will OU even pursue another point guard?

I think OU needs someone who can play the one next year. But I have my doubts if we will be able to sign a point guard who can't swing to another position. Not many true point guards are going to come in and compete with TMG for playing time the next three years. Maybe next year or the year after, but not now.

You really have to wonder what Capel was thinking going into this season. Did he think he would let WW run the point a few minutes each half to rest TMG? What would Capel do it TMG got hurt? Would Cade play pg? Would Willis? Would Franklin?
