I stand corrected. After hearing Joe's presser

Would that not hurt us not having a championship game?? I remember plenty of people dogging the conferences that didnt play in a championship game...I dont like this idea

The conference champion plays the same number of conference games as before (9 reg season now, 8 reg season + 1 champ game before). The champion would have played every other team in the conference, so what would be the value of playing one of those teams again?

The only value lost would be if the conference doesn't have any games on the last week of the year.

I think it will hurt us, but the only way around it is to add 2 more teams. I personally like Memphis as one of them. We can have the memphis market which is larger than OKC, and we can get the 10 mil from FedEx. as for the other im not sure who I would want but I bet the short list would include Houston, TCU, Tulsa, and BYU.

Since none of those teams (even Memphis) will add $14-$20 million to the conference, all adding teams does is dilute the monetary value the conference. A conference championship game isn't worth losing that kind of money.

Maybe Memphis could hit the low end of the conference distribution with the $10 mill sponsorship.

I think Memphis could make the conference money, but I'm not sure anyone else could. That's where the problem lies. We wont go to 11 and 12 will lose money. But since Beebe is still trying to decide if he wants too invite more teams then I guess we are free to speculate on who might be coming in.

The conference doesn't have 12 teams any more so we can't have a conference championship game. I am assuming out conference schedule will be modeled after the Pac-10; 18 conference BBall Games, 9 conference Football games. Still have a Conference Basketball tourney.

I wonder how they'll do the basketball tournament with 10 teams.

Do only the top 10 make it to the tournament or do you have it where the top 2 teams get a first round bye?

Anybody know how the Pac 10 did it?

The Pac 10 did it where only 9 teams got in, 8-9 played an opening round game, then it was an 8 team tourney this past year, now I'm not sure if that was due to USC being in trouble or not

edit... after more research, in 2008, 8-9 and 7-10 played opening round games then it was an 8 team tourney

First Round: 8 vs 9 and 7 vs 10
Second Round: Game A 1 vs 8/9, Game B 2 vs 7/10, Game C 3 vs 6, Game D 4 vs 5
Third Round: A winner vs D winner and B winner vs C winner
Fourth Round: A/D winner vs B/C winner
