I still relish the '88 beatdown of Nova by Billy's boys

Of course, I like a dominating win by OU as much as the next person. But I got some added enjoyment out of it because of the incredible bias shown by CBS's guys during that regional final. To them, it was "Lovable Lil Rollie (Massimino)" against "Bad Guy Billy" who allegedly ran up the score on everyone (even when his teams won by only 10-12 points).

It was actually a really bad start by OU before the guys served up some reality on the plodding Wildcats. I do remember that Massimino didn't take kindly to a wisecrack made by Billy about how Rollie got so worked up that he sometimes needed a comb (but he did finish with a compliment that St. Rollie apparently never heard). I also remember that Rollie "called it" with about a minute left and seemed to catch Tubbs off guard with the mass substitution. Billy did get his starters out fairly soon after. But I always suspected that Rollie was just trying to show up Billy on national TV, by playing the victim card when he knew it was over.

And, I got even more enjoyment, after the fact, of the OU rout when I'd heard some radio talk that Rollie was really pretty much a jerk off-camera to various media people not from his neck of the woods. If nothing else, Billy wasn't a hypocrite like that. I am curious if anyone else heard that scuttlebutt that St. Rollie really wasn't....
