Hypothetically . . .

Looking at Google maps, any way I go I'm going to end up in Lawton and coming up I44.
Looks like I get off on Hwy 9 and follow it (it gets on I35, gets back off I35, still following 9).
Then go East on W. Imhoff.

Does that sound about right? Or do you have suggestions?

How much will the tolls cost me?

Where do I park? Where do I go in? Never been there. (I've been through Norman going up and down I35, but that's about all I've seen of it.)

Still kicking around the idea of making a mad trip up there and back tomorrow. :D

Those directions sound good. If you just continue on Imhoff, you run right into the LNC. It's surrounded by free parking.

I don't know how much the tolls would cost you. If you happen to have a Texas Toll Tag for the tollway in Dallas, it works on our turnpikes statewide.

I haven't been over the toll road in about ten years. I paid about $2.75 twice. But, I was going to OKC from Lawton. I don't remember if you pay the second toll at 9 or not.

All right. Thanks. If it's just a few bucks, no big deal. Most of my toll road experience has been in a big truck. They like to stick it to commercial vehicles and tolls get costly. Figured it would be less in my pickup but didn't know for sure.

Once you get off I-35 onto Hwy 9 east, there is signage for LNC. You can go on Imhoff, Chautauqua Ave or Jenkins Ave. All 3 lead directly to LNC. LNC is about a block north of Hwy 9 when you turn on Chautauqua or Jenkins.

Looks like toll from State Line to Hwy 76 (on Bailey spur) is $5.30.

Still not sure if I'm coming.
I work in the oil field. With oil prices down, work is slow, budgets are tight. I should stay home and save the gas money. On the other hand, with oil prices down, so are gas prices, so it won't cost as much to dive up there.

If you happen to see this guy wondering around, come say hi.

I've never been on that road from Lubbock to Wichita Falls. Hopefully, it is faster than 84 up from Abilene. Wichita Falls to Norman is fast. Do NOT exceed the Oklahoma speed limit with a Texas tag.

Speed limits on turnpikes in OK is 75. On regular interstate highways, it's only 70 mph. I probably agree about exceeding limit although 5 mph above probably wouldn't warrant a ticket. LOL!

Once you get to last toll on the Bailey Spur, you're less than 10 miles from LNC.

Last time I was up that way, speed limit on the turnpike was 75, which is what it is now on most Texas highways. That's plenty fast for me. No need to speed in my gas guzzler.

I don't remember ever seeing anyone in the Cordell jail other than a Texas salesman caught drinking or speeding. Doing both almost got you permanent residency. I remember one guy getting a $500 fine---in 1960.

:D
I don't drink much, and learned my lesson about drinking and driving many years ago. And I don't need to get in that big of a hurry. So unless they're just harassing Texans on general principles, I should be ok.

You actually do have to break the law. But, I must admit that I am more cautious in Oklahoma now that I no longer have an Oklahoma tag or DL.

MGood,

You have the directions correct. I will give you a slight alternative.

Take the turnpike up through Chickasha. Get off at the second Chickasha exit that will be the one for SH277/62. Drive that 2-lane to just north of Blanchard and then follow it all the way East to I-35. You will know if you've gone the right way if you drive past the Riverwind Casino to get onto I-35.

Take Highway 9 east to either the Chataqua or Jenkins streets exit. Go north and you can't miss it. I think tolls going your way will be in the neighborhood of $5 bucks both ways, you make cut a dollar or 2 off that if you go my way.

If you go I-44, IMHO, you have to go a bit out of the way and it isn't any faster than the 2-lane. Scenery is better, if that's possible, on the 2-lane. Normally, speeding and getting caught isn't something you have to worry about on the Blanchard road, either. However, be a bit careful on the road north of Blanchard until you get on I-35. Newcastle cops like to collect some fines on that stretch.
