If Lon left....

I want them to back the truck up, unload some money, and hire a proven coach. Bennet from UVA, Wright from Nova, I would even go after Kelvin again. I think I remember lots of rumors of trying to get Wright from years ago and didn't they also try to get Geno from UCONN?

Their not hiring a proven Top Gun coach like you have listed. They will never go after Kelvin nor should they. Henson would be my guess. Not my first choice but the other choices are for dreamers Like you.

Call me what you want, it was just a thought and something for us to talk about. This board is for open discussion and my question is hypothetical because Lon probably isn’t leaving soon, I know this. I was just trying to see what everyone else thought when that day does come. As far as it being a “dream”, money talks and if OU committed to basketball and spent the money, OU is an all time NCAA top 25 team and could land a quality top gun coach. Also, if you don’t like the topic or thread don’t participate.

Money does talk, and OU has the worst arena in the Big 12 followed by the worst weight room and plays in a half empty arena. So the support for this program has been spoken for, it's not good. Find a coach willing to to be the secondary sport for fans and everyone else, because that's what OU is. Football is king here, fans know it, players know it, and it shows in our facilities.

We need some big donors to build a state of the art arena on campus and give the program everything to succeed.

The LNC is an out of date dump. Concrete everywhere. Looks like it should be hosting a tractor pull, not a basketball game. Worst arena in the big12.

Never going to happen.

A) OU doesn't have big donors to begin with.

B) We have a $300m football project which is priority. Of course, we can only do half because we don't have donors

C) OU would rather the city pay for an off campus arena than put money into anything else.

Reality is what it is. OU doesn't have big boosters, and the booster we have don't care about basketball.

I guess we should just cancel that new weight room, then.

Surprised none of you have mentioned SFA head coach (Kyler Keller), the Ok state alum. Figured you guys would love him for his defenses and because he is a Poke.

Didn't Keller have a "Cause" issue to get back into coaching for cheating.

Everything you said is true. Also why OU will remain what they've always been. Irrelevant.

Great points about attendance and the arena. Both need improvements and support. I wouldn’t call OU irrelevant though. They are ranked top 25 all time and I believe they have the 10th most NCAA tournament appearances in the last 35 years. I would say they are more of a sleeping giant if the right amount of resources were invested into basketball.

OU should have hired Terry Stotts after Kelvin left.
I love me some Bruce Pearl, but that isn’t happening.

I really have zero idea who’d I’d go after Buzz and Gregg Marshall have 15 million buyouts, so mark them off.

All this Gregg Marshall talk is ridiculous. And even if it wasn't, he would never take the job because he loves the spotlight far too much to coach at a school where basketball is, sadly, an afterthought. He's in the perfect spot. He's the big man in town, no competition from football or anything else, and he can use that to hawk every product in town and get his family attention. Plus, he's never coached in a power conference. Take away one magic Final Four run five years ago, and most people on here wouldn't even know his name.

marshall will never happen for many reasons, and i am sure the number one reason is that joe c would never have his wife be any kind of representative for this university.

not saying i want him, but i will be curious to see where thunder dan majerle winds up. seems to be a good coach, who might possibly have a heart attack on the sideline one day.

I like pearl also.

I'm telling you guys ... we need a young, vibrant, defensive-oriented coach who this fanbase can grow with a it like we did with kelvin. someone from like the UVa dude's coaching tree or in that little group of beard and the SFA coach or even that group around the Buffalo coaches. someone new whose style got a little notoriety. a young guy who will make his own era here.

A new arena off campus is in the works
Til then we are stuck with the LNC. Truth is TV money is more important the fans in the stands, witness the number of weekday 6pm and 8pm games this year. The days when all weekday home games were at 7 unless it was big Monday are gone. Tough to get to Norman by 6 if you work or live in OKC or Edmond.

Some of the names I'm reading are obviously in the "wishful thinking" category...but it's all in good fun.

Joe C already has one miss in his two hoops hires, so he will take this very seriously if the head-coaching job came open. Going the mid-major route, there's always a chance of landing the next Billy Tubbs. Since Joe C has a lot more "hits" than "misses" overall, I believe he'll get it right...just have no idea who he would try to pursue.

I don’t get the reverence for Joe C by so many OU fans. He has done a solid job but he also lied to us about selling alcohol at the new stadium. I am fairly in different to the guy. The real person that deserves credit is David Boren. He made the commitment to excel at sports.

You mean the guy who wins national AD of the year annually?

The guy who won 4 national titles last year while bringing in the second highest net income in the nation? Yeah, that guy arguably is the best AD of all time.

P.s. look no further than David boren for the lack of alcohol. If joe c had it his way, he would have signed off on Budweiser bowling in and renovating the stadium back in the early 2000s in exchange for Budweiser to be sold at the games. Boren, the same guy who made the campus dry, said no.

LOL.

Joe C. has the OU athletic department operating at an amazingly high level. I don't follow all of the secondary sports, but OU football is really good, men's basketball was just in a FF, softball, gymnastics, and a few others. We just made changes for baseball and wrestling.

That doesn't even take into account the facility upgrades and many other things.

He may not get them all right, but Joe C. has been a God send for OU athletics.

Wrong. Gregg Marshall was on my radar when he was at Winthrop. Basketball people have definitely known who he was for years. Also, if he ends up at Georgia, that will destroy the "Basketball Only" school argument.
