Iffffffffff.......

Because he's openly stated that the only men's jobs he would take are UNC and Duke...he said that less than two weeks ago. He has a great gig at UCONN, they've won 70-something straight, makes good money, etc. If I said let's offer Bill Self, Coach K and Roy Williams you would laugh at me, but they have the same percentage of accepting an OU offer as Geno.

He has and will have zero, I repeat ZERO, interest in a mid-level Big XII job (which is what OU is as of 4/9/10). For an east coast guy who is not familiar with our program, that's what OU is to him. Castiglione has already tried once and Geno straight up said "not interested." Joe C. isn't going to fork over a Stoops comparable salary during a recession for a bball coach, sorry, that's just not economically feasible.

Your post is was funny because it couldn't be further from reality and it doesn't make financial sense. OU can get a solid coach in the $800K-1.5M range, no sense on dropping double that.

He's be more likely to take the OU womens job over OU mens right now....

Get used to it with him. He and 35tangotango have something against the men's program. Agreed that comparing us to Mississippi State is ridiculous.

:ez-laugh:

like you dont against the womens??

puhlease.

I don't think anyone has offered Geno $3 mil per year as the original poster suggested. Money talks. It is easy for him to say he isn't interested in any school other than UNC or Duke when no one has offered enough money to get his attention. One thing about it, Geno has more national championships than all of the other coaches put together who are mentioned in this thread.

I don't think Geno was interested in taking the job before Capel was hired because Joe C. was apparently more interested in hiring someone on the cheap. If he is serious about hiring a coach who has the experience to get the job done, it is going to cost some bucks. Three million dollars is a lot of bucks. That kind of money talks loud and a lot of coaches would listen to the sound of that kind of money, Geno and many others.

I am saying all of this and I don't even like Geno, but the guy can coach!

he's also said repeatedly that his success comes from his fear of failure, and that imo is directly correlated with only wanting to coach at duke or unc. he wants nothing to do with the uconn men's job, but he would come to oklahoma? i don't think so. i honestly think he's afraid to fail and do any harm to his legacy as a coach. and even if unc or duke called, which will never, eeeever happen (making it easy for him to say it) he still wouldn't leave storrs.

Don't you think that is what we need? A coach who doesn't take **** from anyone including some pre madonnas? We could have used that this year instead of letting the prisoners run the asylum. And his conditioning would be good, back to the Sampson days when we outworked teams with good players.

fify

WP,

I support the women's program just fine. Usually go to several games per year. I am not a big fan of the sport, but anything involving OU is something that I like....

I'm curious why comparing our program to Miss St is ridiculous. They went to a final 4 with Dampier and have had equal success in the SEC, which is a superior conference, as we have had in the Big XII. I also remember them beating our best Hollis Price team head to head.

Rick Stansbury is a nice head coach too. I would say alltime we have a slight edge but the past 15 years or so we are dead even.

Well, I hadn't intended to compare Mississippi State to Oklahoma. But, I'm not particularly sorry that you got that opinion. The intention was to state that schools like Mississippi State always seem to think that they are the most desirable program in the nation, and that the Duke coach would just love to leave to come to coach at good ole Mississippi State. If you will remember, the last coaching change had people talking about Wright, Calipari, Florida's coach (after he had just won a title or two), and Cream. Surely, everyone wants to come to OU.

No. They don't. Kids in NYC don't even know that Oklahoma exists now that the play is no longer on Broadway. Get real with what Oklahoma might get. Geno isn't it. Besides, I'd rather have the coach at Butler, and I'm not sure he would leave Indiana.

You guys are nothing but banwagon fans. One bad year...We lost everyone and the freshmen class was horrible and you think we should be awesome.

Blake was great but there was more than just him on this team. Taylor-gone, Johnson-gone, Leary-gone, Pattillo-gone.

TALKING ABOUT A NEW COACH ALREADY...GIVE ME A BREAK.

One bad year? So you think next year isn't going to be horrible? Tell me who is actually going to be playing for us? Name one player over 6-7! Name one point guard on the roster!

This post is going to look silly if we find out within 24 hours that Capel is gone.

Gonna change your name?:ez-roll:

Don't think Brad Stevens would leave Butler. He just signed a 12yr contract extension.

What's wrong with Ronnie Arrow? He seems to do more with less.

Whenever I hear that about a coach, it gives me the distinct impression he can coach but he can't recruit.

I would rather have a guy that can't recruit, than a guy that can't coach

I'll never get the fascination some people have with men's teams hiring successful women's coaches. I saw just yesterday someone talking about how they wanted Mike Alden to look into hiring Pat Summit when Quin left.

Basketball isn't always basketball. The women's game and men's games are very different. The athletes are different (physically and mentally), the rules aren't exactly the same, the division of talent isn't the same, recruiting is different... I'm sure their knowledge would translate, but it would take an adjustment period, and what works with one gender may never work with the other.

Bandwagon fans? :ez-laugh: I bet I've been to more games this year than you've been alive.

The reason people are talking is because Capel is interviewing for another job, Clemson to be exact. So talking about a new coach is completely relevant! Get all the facts before you start calling posters bandwagon fans.
