I'll say this again (re OSU)

OSU's season has very little to do with where Smart gets drafted. In fact, the only impact the season has is if Smart plays bad and causes OSU to lose games. No competent GM, Coach or scout is going to base its decision on who to draft based on a teams performance in the season let alone in the NCAA Tournament.

Last year Cleveland took Anthony Bennett from UNLV with the first pick. UNLV was a 5 seed and lost in the first round. Typically the best players are on the best teams but when they are not, the NBA doesn't care. Oladipo and Zeller from Indiana went 2 and 4. Indiana did nothing in the Tournament. They were a Number 1 seed in lost in the Sweet 16. Otto Porter from Georgetown was the 3rd pick. Georgetown lost in the first round. Alex Len from Maryland was the 5th pick. Did Maryland even make the Tournament? Caldwell-Pope of Georgia was 8th. I don't think Georgia made the Tournament. McCollum of Lehigh went 10th. I don't think Lehigh made the Tournament. The teams that didn't make the tournament obviously didn't have good seasons.

I am pretty used to OSU people saying silly thing but this particular comment is way out there.

Perhaps you misunderstood my point. If Smart shows his leadership and basketball ability on the big stage it my catapault him up the draft board. Several games in the tourney like he had against Memphis will make an impact. Can he have an exceptional season and OSU bow out early and still move up? Sure he can but don't underestimate great performances in big games.

I am not misunderstanding anything.

The NBA has proven they don't care about great performances in big games. That is not remotely what they are basing draft decisions on. Prior to the one and done rule forcing players to go to college the NBA routinely took high school players in the first round and often with the very first pick. Lebron James and Kobe Bryant never did a thing on a big stage prior to the NBA. The NBA continues to select international players that have never done anything on a big stage in the United States.

The NBA selects players on potential. That is why guys like Osby often don't get drafted and a guy like Westbrook goes so high in the lottery.

You really are a stupid aggie.

Smart missed out on #1 draft pick money, IMO. I live in Cleveland area and the unlv dude they drafted is way too raw to be #1 overall. Smart was arguably the most polished pg in the draft and most definitely was the most physically ready.

and cleveland has kyrie they were never going to draft smart

Think the Cavs are set at PG.

And the thunder was set at pg with Russell Westbrook but they took another combo guard in harden and that turned out pretty well.

Besides, Cleveland may have been able to shop the #1 pick if there was a clear #1 guy like Smart may have been by the time the draft rolled around.

It is all speculation, but I truly feel smart would have been #1 last season. He will be about 4 or 5 now probably.

The Cavs signed Jarrett Jack as a backup PG. Jack is a much better NBA player now than Smart. Cleveland is also trying to make the playoffs now. Drafting a 3rd string PG with the #1 pick was never going to happen. Smart also would not get a lot of minutes at the 2 because the Cavs had a lot of faith in their lottery pick last season, Dion Waiters. You need to follow the NBA more closely before making uneducated assumptions.

harden is a true 2 guard .. he plays almost 0 point ... so thanks but try again

Cleveland needs to find a pg. Kyrie Irving is just biding his time before heading to the Lakers after next season.

except he can't ... he will not be an UFA until after his next contract

And if he accepts the qualifying offer instead of an extension his next contract is 1 year only and he's an ufa the following year. We'll see if he has the sack to take the 1 year injury risk. He would be the first ever but word is Uncle Drew is gonna do it.

that would be unreal .. and your right he would be the first to ever do it ..
