why people don't like this coach or that coach. I have no personal favorite but i like to read why people like this coach or don't like that coach. So if you like or don't like a coach, tell us why, please.

I like Buzz because he was the lead recruiter for Billy Clyde and Tom Crean before taking over for Crean at Marquette. And he recruits good talent to Marquette which I don't think is that easy to do, but i could be wrong. He's had 20+ wins and made the dance all 3 seasons with Marquette and he's more proven than most any of the other names being thrown around.

I love pastner because I understand his power in AAu in Houston. I have lived in Houston for 10 years. There is not a kid playing AAu ball in Houston that Josh could not get to take a serious look at OU.

I wanted him pre capel, but understandably he was not even a candidate due to lack of experience.

I am not crazy about Tad Boyle, lack of Texas ties.

Frankly going back to the search pre capel and post capel, for the most part if I liked someone it was because they had ties to Texas (pastner, arrow, bcg, jones). If they didn't have ties to Texas I don't want them.

I have watched really good players leave the state of Texas for years to play for every school in the country but OU except in small doses of course. There are enough thoroughbreds in Houston alone for us to be perennial conference contenders.

Buzz - The more control of the program he gets, the worse the team is playing.
BCG - A circus and not a good one
Evans - OU guy obviously, but needs to be an assistant first
Stotts - NBA assistant doesn't necessarily translate to good college coach
Fran - haha
Pastner - seems too Calipari(ish)

Mack - He's a winner...has never had a losing season as a player or as a coach
Kruger - Has coached 4 BCS-level schools and has gotten each school past the first round
Grant - Has proven it at VCU and is now doing it at Bama....coached under Donovan
Rose - has coached at BYU for 6 years....has had 6 20 win seasons. Not easy at BYU.

Pastner would be a great hire but I just don't see him leaving a rabid basketball school like Memphis. His AAU ties in Texas are certainly enticing but that leads me to Buzz Williams who also has connections down in Texas. His Marquette squad a few Texas kids and they are in the tournament. He is a Billy Clyde disciple so you can count on him preaching defense which has sorely lacked under Capel.

I would be happy with BCg or pastner.

Bcg is probably the best hire for the first season or 2.

Hear me out on Pastner. His teams will be high flying, athletic, NBA caliber players. His teams will be fun to watch. When the Sooners are fun to watch and they are winning lnc rocks like any other arena in the country, I think if we want to be a basketball powerhouse we need a uber talented and fun product. Pastner can bring that and ig the lnc is full we can pay him what is needed to keep him.

I don't want Gillespie because his style is too boring. Games would be 56-52 with 8 minute scoring draughts.

I don't want Buzz because his teams are getting worse every year.

I don't really know who i want. I want someone that will win big and play up tempo. I am intrigued with Evan and Jones.

I don't know if we could get Rose, Pastner or Fisher but those would be great hires. Rose and Fisher are having excellent seasons and Rose may want to go somewhere where he won't lose a player for having sex with his girlfriend. Heck at OU you can have sex with your PG's girlfriend! j/k, kinda.

Pastner will never be happy in Norman. He'd be mentioned every year for bigger and greener pastures.
I think Buzz is a guy that would be here for a long time.
And I think he would recruit Ok/Tx well.

Buzz and Billy Clyde play a similar style to Sampson. They will win but may turn off many fans who remember the Tubbs days.

Pastner will play an exciting brand of basketball but his teams don't defend enough to go deep in the tournament. He is young and that could change in time as he gains experience. His connections to AAU are eye-popping.

Evans might be good but I think it's a reach of epic proportions.

Fran, no way, too far removed from coaching and has never had any consistent success anywhere.

The ODU coach could be a consideration but I have not seen them play. His name has been thrown around some.

Boyle, I think he's a good coach but his ability to attract top talent is unknown.

I would like to hire a tough defensive mind head coach. After all defense win championship. He also should have enough connection and personal charsima to recruit. He is able to hire an up and coming offensive mind assistant. Does that sound like Bob Stoop? Is there somebody like that in the basketball world?

I think it's BCG. Would you hire Mike Stoop to coach at OU if Bob Stoop decides to leave? I bet most of you would. How is it different from hiring BCG. I don't believe BCG hasn't broken any NCAA rule and bring NCAA sanction to any school he coached. Everybody complained he drinks but how is he different from Mike Stoop, yet everybody is OK with OU hiring Mike Stoop as a head coach. I think BCG got a bad deal at Kentucky. He got paid so high and with so much expectation, that pressure would surely caused you to drink. At OU it's different, he does not have that pressure to deal with.

Hey test,

I'm all for winning and you're right, it does start with defense. I think BCG would win more games with the current talent because defense would be his trademark.

It would be great to have it all, wouldn't it, lol.

I like them all, anything is a breath of fresh air over Jeff Capel IMO.

I don't like Marshall b/c he hasn't taken WSU to the Dance, and Turgeon did.

I don't like Pastner b/c I don't trust him (big on AAU circuit, seems too much like Cal).

I'm not 100% against the ODU coach, but I don't like that he doesn't have ties to the area, and I don't think he'd fit in here.

I don't like anybody that has been in the NBA mostly, b/c college is a different game, and OU cannot take that chance. Stotts fits here.

Stoop?

BCG

+ : proven winner, good at rebuilding, would have us in the postseason next year for sure
- : baggage, and I think he's Kelvin Sampson Lite...I don't see us making a Final Four with him, nor would he energize the fanbase. Plus, there's the horror story of his Kentucky tenure

Buzz

+ : would energize the fanbase, good recruiter
- : inconsistent (his teams seem to be unpredictable; slaying a giant one week and losing by 30 to Louisville the next), decreasing wins

For the - :
I feel sorry for anyone taking the Kentucky job, too much expectation. It would drive any coach not as slick as Calipari insane, becoming a drunk. As I said, at OU BCG would not have to deal with that pressure.
I think BCG can not just get us to Final Four but to wink NC. He already is a defensive mind, he can hire top notch offensive assistant.

As for Buzz: Sure his track record looks good, but he is inconsistent. You have to look at the overall body of work (experience and everything), Buzz is pale in comparion to BCG.

Test, i don't get it. Kentucky has the resources, the rabid fan base, a big home court advanteage, the tradition, the everything of the 'topest' notch. It would be much easier to recruit to Kentucky than 98% of other schools. Basketball is played on the same size court everywhere, so coaching the X's and O's are the same everywhere. I don't buy that high fan expectations causes one to lose, and if it causes you to drink than you have deeper problems. BCG is not a top choice for me.

The added pressure to produce and the high expectation as you said the rabid fan base. That's why I admire Stoop, we are expected to win NC every year, but he didn't let that pressure getting to him. On the same note, if you are a GM of an NBA team, you have the choice of taking Kobe Bryant with all the baggage and a Blake Griffin, who would you take given you don't have to play Kobe Bryant any more than Blake. Take a look at the pay scale now, there is a world of difference in pay between Kobe and Blake due to player's experience. BCG with all that experience vs an up and coming coach, I will take BCG in a heart beat

Umm... no.
Marquette was 36th in the nation in scoring this year at 76.1 points per game.
That's more than 10 points per game more than us.
And he just brought in the number 14 recruiting class in the nation to Marquette. As I've made known many times... I'll take him.

Sampson's teams averaged over 72 points per game during his time at OU.
