Information: Coach Capel's Contract

Ignore the good job he has done 80% of the time. He has been scrambling from day 1 making up for the mess he inherited. He overcame it so fast people got spoiled. Now some rats want to jump ship because we had some devastating defections. Good thing the rats are not in any decision making capacity.

The mess he inherited was Nate Carter (PF/Tweener), Longar Longar(Center), Taylor Griffin(PF), AJ (combo/pg), Tony Crocker (sg/wing), Keith Clark (PF), David Godbold (WG), Michael Nea (SG)l and Chris Walker (role player perhaps in over his head). Taylor Griffin was the golden ticket to Blake Griffin.

Compare that to what he left himself four years later: Stephen Pledger, Andrew Fitsgerald, Kyle Hardrick, Cade Davis, Cam Clark and TJ Taylor.

Exactly how has it gotten better. You simply cannot blame Sampson for the problem 5 years later. Sampson is the reason no serious fan complained about Capel's first season. It has nothing to do with his 5th season.

Man, what I would not give for Nate Carter, LL, Taylor, AJ, Crocker, Godbold and Michael Neal right now.

PG: Austin Johnson
SG: Mike Neal
SF: Tony Crocker
PF: Nate Carter
C: Longar Longar

That team probably runs this years team off the floor by about 20.

Yet, with Capel coaching them they still don't advance to post season play.

Add in Taylor and Godbold off the bench, that was a much better team than OU has right now.

It is exactly like it. in 2001 OU lost to both OSu and Nebraska. In 2002 OU lost to OSU and did not play Nebraska. Since he started beating them again then he couldn't beat Mack Brown during that mini losing streak, now he can;t win a BCS bowl.

You see idiotic theories against anything OU will always be put forward by our rivals to diminish our accomplishments. And only WEAK OU fans or fake ones will accept them.

Capel has won and won plenty with and without Blake. He's hit a little bump in the road. Big deal. It happens. BTW where does Capel rank in NCAA tournament wins and appearances among active Big XII coaches? He's only definitely behind Self and Barnes, might be behind Anderson and Drew, but is ahead of everybody else.

OSU SUCKS!!!!!!!!! Always and Forever.

Well I'll give my two cents worth. What OU needs now is fan support for its program - not for Capel, not for the new guy, not for Blake Griffin, not for the new recruits, but for the program. I don't think Capel has been at OU with an unblemished record. He has recruited too many kids who did not stay very long and really were not OU good. On the other hand, some of his detractors want to have it both ways.

Capel recruited Blake Griffin and you have to have talent to win - I don't care how good of a coach you are. He really got blindsided last year with a several guys who were just not good team players, cancers actually and Crocker reportedly did not have the attitude that you look for out of a senior leader. Capel recruited these guys, except Crocker, so he has noone to blame but himself for them being on the roster.

Here's the deal. I hear about the big money boosters who are upset with Capel from those allegedly in the know. Their identities are obviously very secure in the OU witness protection program. If they were so upset then why not fire him last year when there were a bunch of scholarships to use? One reason is that I doubt that it was clear to Castiglione that he had failed last year and two, the money is more than OU wants to cough up to get rid of him and bring in someone else. OU basketball fans are fair weather fans so you better put a good, exciting product on the court if you want to routinely fill half or more of your seats. OU has very, very few fans who are there through thick and thin. If and when this ever occurs I will be a very happy camper. Until then, all of the tough guy talk on the board about canning Capel, and the secret boosters who are upset, seems like a conspiracy out of the mind of a delusional schizophrenic. The program would likely take a step backward if Capel were fired.

I hate to see what is happening to the program with all of the anti-Capel sentiment and division you see on the board. I like watching this team better than I did the one last year. They are clearly less talented but they are getting the most out of their players. They actually play defense.

When I grow up, I want to be an annoymous internet tough guy who comes up with abrupt solutions to problems that arise - off with their heads.......

Lord, how do we take a step back from were we are? That would be scary to see...

That's kind of what i was wondering. We're going to struggle to reach 12 wins this year.

Take a step backward if Capel is fired? How can things get any worse? OU has hit rock bottom.

It could get worse by Cam Clark, Andrew Fitzgerald and Stephen Pledger leaving. I doubt Neal, Hardrick or any upper classmen would leave. The results probably wouldn't be any worse but the time to recovery would probably be worse, assuming Capel is able to correct this problem.

How good OU is next year after a coaching change all depends on who the new coach is able to sign and convince not to leave.

There are probably examples of coaches bringing in very good classes in their first season, and there are probably examples of coaches really having to scramble.

Quite easy. Lose more games than we did this year and abort the year over year progress I would expect. Losing a stud like Cameron Clark would go a long way toward aborting the year over year progress....
