Iowa State

Best two-game stretch in years in, IMHO.

This looked like OU squads of yesteryear.

ISU and OSU aren’t Baylor or any of the bigs.

Still, every facet of this game looked like this team was beginning to gel in a positive direction.

Every player was played really well. The turnovers were nearly eradicated as compared to the last few seasons.

Hope this continues and grows.

Totally agree. Great ball movement and ball security. Players contributing in a big way with Ana out. Fun to watch.:clap

Two good games on the road. I'll take it. Solid play by a core group of players.

Was Ana sitting on the bench a factor in this team playing more fundamentally sound, taking better shots, minimizing fouls and turnovers? Something that Ana commits in spades. Just curious.

Good win. In my humble opinion, OU plays better and more as a team without Llanusa. One also has to be concerned about how long Tayor R can go playing every second of every game.

Also thought ou plays better without Llanusa. She turns the ball over too much.

Maddi, Gabbi finding their way. Good defense. Surprised that Simpson has not been overwhelmed by bigger players lately in games. Cox even struggled to get easy shots against her. Got to hand it to her. If any players was ever been set up for failure, she is it. Beat everyone down the court for a fast break layup.

Much better defense today.

Unbelievable that Taylor got her 20 today. It was a four on four game. They had a chaser on Taylor and still she got free for shots.

Maybe my prediction of 8 conference wins was a little low. Hope so. Enjoy crow.

Are we better without Ana? I don’t know. Maybe she put herself in a position that she thought she had to carry the entire load. Maybe took too much on.

I can’t say whether it was us finally playing well and not turning the ball over or ISU is mediocre just like us or we played more like a team with Ana on the bench.

If she sits next game with her “injury” of something being pulled or strained, then I might raise my eyebrows.

If she’s back full bore, it was either a very slight injury or Sherri pulled her out to let her see the game better and learn from what she’s doing wrong.

It also isn’t out of realm of possibility that Coale sat her down in en effort to force the rest of the team to step up and become leaders without the benefit of the team veteran.

Anyone who attended the game could see that Ana was limping every time she got up off the bench. I fear she may miss several games. Recall she missed half the season last year with an ankle/foot issue. One announcer wondered if that got hurt again late against OSU.

Ana is probably our best player. She is the one who actually plays hard all the time. And she gets lots of steals. When you start comparing things like turnovers, you obviously have to look at several factors. Like playing time, defensive effort, etc. One player plays 10 minutes and has 3 TO's, while another plays 30 minutes and has 4 TO's. That is like comparing apples to oranges.

Just compare Taylor (obviously an excellent player - but mainly a shooter) to Ana. Taylor should almost never have a turnover. She catches the ball and instantly shoots in most cases. It is very unlikely you will have a TO doing that. And Taylor almost never gets a steal, and still has lots of issues defensively (although we are seeing improvement).

For heaven's sake Ana made 2nd team all Big-12 last year. Let's not run her off and end up with another transfer out.

She has been getting too many fouls recently, but much of that is from effort - and trying to compensate for some others not doing anything defensively. That last foul she had at OSU was silly. The OSU girl got around her - and she tried to jump and knock the ball from behind the girl. That is highly unlikely to ever be successful. I noticed Gregory tried the same thing today, but fortunately they didn't call it on her. It didn't work today either.

Thank you for a sensible, realistic post. One game is not a deciding factor of anything. A lead guard with the ball more often who creates offense is going to have more turnovers than others. This is why rates are important to explain PART of the disparities (it will not explain all of it). Ask the team what they think of Ana and it will be opposite of what some have posted here. And honestly, the team may have played better towards the end and it pulled it out FOR Ana. They got lucky at OK State. Today's game was mostly good execution throughout. Regardless, both games resulted in a W.

My sources say Ana has a back injury and it is not minor and perhaps chronic barring surgery.

My asking the question was not to infer that the team is better with Ana on the bench just that they play better team basketball with Ana on the bench. I am inclined to think the problem is poor coaching. Why should Ana as a seasoned veteran with her skill set still be making so many unforced errors taking so many poor shoots (5 p/g BTA when shooting 28%/29.5% career).

I think the onus is on Sherri and staff to get Ana to slow down, play under control within the game plan and stop trying to do too much. She is the best basketball player on the team but she is not the most productive. That is Taylor. Ana has too many negatives offsetting her positives in every game. To me she commits way too many TO's be it walking, charging, passing, fouling, etc because she plays out of control.

She often looks like an unbridled freshman not a seasoned junior. I think that is on the coaching staff for not better managing her skill set. Taylor touches the ball about as frequently as does Ana. OU depends on Taylor to score just as much as they do Ana. Taylor has A/TO ratio is 1.933. Ana's is 0.495. Mandy 0.923, Madi 0.480, Nydia 0.500, Tatum 1.441, Gabby 0.581.

You have to expect Ana to have quite a few more TO's than Taylor because of the differences in their game but close to 4 times as many (15 vs 57) is a way more than too many. JMHO.

It is almost impossible to compare Taylor and Ana. Their games are completely different. Taylor is knows she can't go by most players because she is too slow so she usually shoots and doesn't try to dribble past defenders. Ana is very aggressive with the ball, many times too aggressive, and turns the ball over. Ana guards a better offensive player than Taylor. Because Taylor is so unathletic, she usually guards the opponents worst offensive player. She couldn't get open the first half yesterday and the staff made a great adjustment and had her at point guard with a high post screen to get her open. Great win yesterday. I know some people on this board were disappointed.

I did not ask the original question that I thought was being posted.

I can’t imagine any real reason Ana should be benched. She’s clearly the best overall player on the team.

I think some players seem to defer to her on shooting and play making, which I think would be a normal thing. She is the veteran.

What yesterday’s game proves, to me, is that the other girls not named TR, began to realize they can impact a game positively without her.

Think that might be called growing up and/or accepting that you can make a difference.

I think Anna has assumed the responsibility of carrying this team. After last year I shouldnt wonder. Got to persuade her to just focus on her responsibility and that doesnt include doing it all all the time.

Unfortunate that AL has an injury. Another good win...seems as though they are playing "freely...what do we have to lose mentality". Almost like they are having fun. Any team that takes them for granted and come in over confident and not playing fundamentally sound basketball (too many turnovers, missing free throws, etc) can be beaten...on any given day.

Fixed.
