Is Buddy graduating?

Especially any degree he can get taking almost entirely upper-level online courses.

Would love to know what his major is.

Note that there are variations in the specifications for the various degree programs. For example, OU’s alphabetical list of degrees includes three different versions of the degree in Human Relations in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Yeah, it's worth far more than in years past.

That said, Buddy needs to be concentrating on preparing himself for the draft.

I disagree. Buddy will finish up and graduate and will have plenty of time to do both.

Human Relations Poor Major: Social Justice, Study of Aging, etc

That's about what I expected. I knew when were head how much time Buddy and the crew were spending at the gym that they had to be taking BS majors. And I'm not just bashing our guys, I know this happens all over the country, but I think it's BS. Most of those guys will never be able to use this particular degree to get much of anything resembling a real job.

It also makes what other schools that don't do stuff like this all the more impressive. The Harvards. The Yales. The Stanfords. I'm sure there are plenty of other teams as well that don't have the majority of their top 7 players or so enrolled in craptastic majors. Again, this isn't really a knock on this OU team, or OU bball in general, as I know it goes on all over the country, and in football as well. I just don't like it.

So I took a quick glance at Stanford's players. A significant number of the scholarship players are "psychology" or "science, technology, & society" majors.

And at Duke, the players are known to be "sociology" majors.

Nowadays Dookies are more prone to be one and done majors.

This post is BS as well. Those guys could spend that much time in the gym and be Petroleum Engineers or Pre-Med/Biochem or Pre-Law/PolySci. It's all about how you delegate your time/free time/hobbies.

I am not sure what you don't like about it...

Also, I'm sure many (almost all) of the top players at the schools you mentioned have "BS" majors as well.

There are all kinds of majors and not all of them can be measured in purely practical terms -- the fine arts, liberal arts, and many more bring a great deal to the world, even if they can't be measured in available jobs or zeroes on a future paycheck. I can believe there are easy classes that athletes (and others) take for a few easy credits, but I don't believe any legitimate university is offering pointless, bogus majors.

I don't understand this post at all. Maybe you need to clarify what you mean by a "BS major." It sounds like, to you, a "BS major" is one that's probably not going to lead to a high income job, like engineering or business. That doesn't make it a "BS major." Going to college is about more than training for a job that conforms to your specifications.

Being educated means different things to different people but one of those meanings is learning about studying things that are of particular interest to you. Just because you're not interested in sociology or psychology doesn't make it a "BS subject" and just because it's not likely to lead to a six figure salary doesn't make it worthless or "craptastic."

Maybe when these players graduate they're not going to be able to get what you would describe as "a real job" but that doesn't mean that they won't work hard, perform a valuable service to others, and lead a fulfilling life. It's their life and they're allowed to do what they want to do, what makes them happy. I suppose it's too bad that you're not likely to approve of their chosen vocation. On the other hand, maybe it's a good thing they didn't have to approve of yours.

The sports should be a major. Things like music, theater, and dance are majors, it's time to do the same for athletics.

Define 'real job'.

Honestly, he needs to be doing full on draft prep right now. Studying for meaningless finals and spending time in class when the difference in one draft spot is hundreds of thousands of dollars is insanity. He can come back next summer to finish up, or do it online down the road. Now is not the time.

Buddy has managed to work out constantly and maintain an excellent GPA. He was Academic All Big XII the last two seasons. I seriously doubt he will let his grades slip. Perhaps he makes Bs and Cs rather than As and Bs but I don't see him being the type of guy that simply blows off his classes.

I don't see BS majors on that list other than perhaps the sports management. Psychology, Sociology, Human Relations and Communications are mainstream degrees offered by virtually every university in this country.

Sports management is thru the Business College.

LOL, made myself feel old by finding the check sheets for my majors.
