Is it too early to give up on Freeman?

I see a lot of people giving up on Matt Freeman...thinking he should transfer.

I still have hope that he can put a good 10-15 pounds, be more consistent from outside, and develop a little toughness to bang down low. He could be a solid role player from the bench next season giving a good 10-12 minutes a game and average 4-5ppg and 2-3 rpg.

Is it just me?

I think his release is too slow to play, and his shooting is his supposed strength

Anybody can theoretically get better, but he has shown nothing that indicates he is a Big XII caliber player. I mean, can he come on the floor for a few minutes? Sure. Guys like C.J. Washington and Austin Bennett have played roles for this team, but I don't think anyone would say those guys are acceptable rotation players for a good team. Except for abd, of course, who would build his franchise around them.

At this point I think his ceiling is mediocre/average backup.

sorry but no. I dont want to be that school. they can contribute to GPA if nothing else. but let's get them on the court too and see.

I was a big Freeman fan when he signed with OU. After watching him play in an all-star game in California, Rivals recruiting guru Eric Bossi said he would be a four star recruit if he had played high school ball in the U. S.

Two and a half seasons later, I’m still waiting to see the player Bossi described. He’s one of at least four players who haven’t improved much since their first season.

Freeman looked good in practices, constantly hitting NBA level 3s. It seems like he rushes things on the court when he shoots. This style of game is new to him, as he's used to 3 on 3 ball. He was never a good defender or rebounder. It's sad to see him not hit shots in the game like he constantly could in practice.

His shot is pure, they will fall in time with minutes and comfortabliity on the court. His defense is the bigger question to me. He's going to really have to commit to being great on that end.

Big recruiting mistake taking Polla. Cut bait with both of them now. Why waste another year with those two scholarships.

Your obsession with Polla is unhealthy. It's one thing to bash a guy who has had plenty of chances and has shown he can't cut it. But to call for them to release a kid who was more than adequate in his limited opportunities as a true freshman is a little sick IMHO.

He's not a high major player. He was such a huge liability every time he was on the court this past season it's hard to get hopeful on him.

I'm not a huge fan but I think it's conceivable he could become a backup big to McNeace and could help the team play 5 out on offense. Run the p&r or pick-&-pop, guard the other team's big. He's not a stretch 4. He's not Manek. I think I'd still rather see Manek & Doolittle together as bigs when McNeace isn't on the court playing in a smaller lineup, pullijng the other team's bigs away from the bucket but maybe he can give us some minutes as a backup 5.

His timely and tough defense won us the Kansas game.:)

To clarify, I don't want to cut his scholarship. I just don't see him as more than a marginal contributor.
