The Cougars (29-2, 16-2) knocked off the defending champs and earned their first league title since 1992 in the Southwest Conference. Coach Kelvin Sampson got a celebratory dousing from his players afterward.

QUESTION: How long will it be before Oklahoma wins another Basketball Conference Championship of any kind? It has been 14 years since the last one.

Love Kelvin. One of the best coaches around and has been for 20+ years. That said, if OU played in the American, we would have one at least two conference regular season titles in the past 14 years, plus some conference tourneys. No team in that league would have been able to beat our 2009 and2016 teams over the course of an 18-game season.

Yeah, I really don't see him going anywhere. UH might just be the perfect job to end his career with. I could see Kellen taking over for him at some point. Would love to see Kellen at OU. He seems like he'll coach just like Kelvin did/does.

Definitely not a middle of the pack Big 12 team. This year's Houston team is one of the 15 best in the country. They are far better than Baylor and ISU, who finished fourth and fifth this season. Houston is closer to KSU, Tech, and KU than they are to the middle of the pack.

They definitely aren’t far better than ISU or Baylor but even still that would put them at 4th in the big 12. The middle of the big 12 is 4-7 so they would in fact be middle of the pack in the big 12.

The ISU squad that finished 9-9, underachieved to a ridiculous extent, and couldn't even protect home court? Zero chance Kelvin's team wouldn't have finished ahead of them. That's the type of team Kelvin feasts on -- they have good offensive talent, lots of guys that can score, love to run and shoot, but they wouldn't have known what to do when Kelvin's team punched them in the mouth and made them try to win a game in the 50s or 60s.

I honestly don't think I've watched a Sampson coached game since he was at Indiana. Really my only criticism of him when he was here was his pace of play. He would win a game 2-0 if he could and I felt like he went to stall ball way to early in games. He's get up by 12 or so and he's have Hollis stand at half court and dribble for 27 second and IMO kill any rhythm or momentum the team had. But I loved and never questioned the teams toughness or hustle.

Houston would have had a decent chance to win the Big XII this year. I would be surprised if they went worse than 12-6. Calling Houston a middle of the road Big XII team is almost as absurd as calling OU a middle of the road AAC team.

I'd say that Sampson is great at programs like Washington State, OU and Houston...not so much at an Indiana or UCLA. He gets hard-nosed kids who want to work. That's not UCLA in my opinion. He is probably very happy at Houston. I would be if I were him. JUCO pipelline, etc.:billy

yep, i have a buddy who is an IU grad and total Knight apologist to the point of it being silly.....at the time...and he loved Kelvin....until a little later he didn't.

i take KS at his word he's happy but i'd like to see what he could do at UCLA....and if i were UCLA i'd think about backing up the truck....as bad as the Pac is right now and U of A having some real problems with Miller....doesn't take much imagination to see a Kelvin-led Bruins as the class of the Pac in a pretty short time.
