Is Kur a legitimate starter next year?

One of the high notes of the season has been the play of Kur Kuath... The dude is a freak athlete, no doubt about it. He has a 7'5'' wingspan... He can block shots, dunk, hit jumpers, etc.

Now, he happens to play behind two guys who are among the best in the league at their positions. You would have to be a tremendous player to take minutes away from Doolittle and Manek. Those guys are, simply put, really damn good.

So Doolittle being the first guy off the bench behind those guys this year is not a knock on Kur.

In my humble opinion, he is a legitimate starter next year. Which means you have a foundation next season of Harmon, Manek, Reaves, and Kur. Those are your primary guys. JB, Alondes, Jalen Hill, etc are in support of those guys. Recruiting needs to focus on support of that core group of players to fill in the gaps.

I think so but he won’t get more than 30 minutes a game, I expect Victor to make a big leap.

I think so.

Hill and victor off the bench. Williams next depending on who needs subbed.

I don't think you can be a good team in the Big 12 with Kuath getting 25 minutes a night.

Is he better or close to as good at Lattin after this year?

Would love to see more of a banger in that starting C or PF role. Someone like a Spangler or Ro Osby type. OU has moved away from that in favor of thinner, longer and more athletic and I think it’s been the wrong move.

I see what you're getting at here. I suppose if you surround Kuath with Hield, Cousins and Spangler he would be serviceable. We all saw what happened when Lattin became "the man" after those three departed.

Lon definitely has a type. Seems like you can interchange Lattin, McNeace and Kuath to produce the same shrug. Personally, I'm tired of it. I'd rather see a guy who can grab a bunch of rebounds over the occasional showy block.

I’d like to see a great bruiser too. But yes OU can be good with Kuath as a starter.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you guys, but I read an article on the Athletic Sunday after Houston smoked WSU. The focus was on Sampson's defensive gameplan, but also on his broader defensive philosophy. He said he recruits bigs who are athletic shot blockers.

I am glad that LK has gone back to him for more minutes. We need those minutes and his athleticism.

Kelvin had Bookout & Mcgee, that’s the type I was referring to. A Tyshawn Thomas & Spangler type.

Yeah I think the article shows that Kelvin has changed his philosophy in that area. I just find it interesting because some of his most vocal supporters on this board hate the fact that LK recruits long, athletic bigs, and now Kelvin does the same thing.

I agree. Most of KS supporters point to conference success.

Kelvin's got some great guards that can play right now. Our best players are forwards. Our guards just aren't that good right now. We need to get some guards that can really go for guys like Kur to play more because the fact is we aren't getting a lot of points from our point guards. Reaves is very hot or cold. And forces up too much because he's probably the only really halfway decent scoring guard we've got.

jabarri brown??

I don't know, he's an amazing athlete but the basketball floor is like the Amazon rain forest to him, full of new discoveries and amazing wonders.

I think he plays 20-25min tops a game next year. If we don't get a transfer big for next season I think we could be in trouble. Unless Issanza or Garang can give us some minutes. I think our guards will get better and be towards the top of the conference.
