Is Wojcik on the hot seat at Tulsa?

Is there anything they can do to keep this from being a stepping stone job?

No. They tried that by hiring Phillips, and it blew up in their faces.

At this point they need to hire the best coach they can, get back to a winning level of play, and go from there. If the coach leaves, replace him with another good coach. There really isn't much you can do, unless you just luck into the right coach, at the right time. And maybe Evans is that guy. Maybe you hire Evans, and he wins, and he doesn't want to leave the area b/c it's home, and b/c he wants the OU job. And then he doesn't get the OU job when LK leaves, but by then, he is a fixture at TU. That is the only way they can keep a good coach, IMO.

re-hire this guy or hire someone similar:

Ugh. I don't think he would win there. I'd really like to see them go get Evans. I think that would be a great hire.

Just over 4,000 I think.

Really? I think Hoffman would win anywhere. He won at OBU and at Pan American and it takes a good coach to win at Pan American.

I don't know the answer to this, but do you ever wonder why he hasn't even gotten a decent head coaching job? Obviously not everybody thinks that highly of him. And I'm not saying he'd be terrible, but I don't see him being much better than the coach they just fired.

I was the biggest critic of the Evans to OU fan club, however, think TU could be a good fit. Relatively cheap hire who could test himself with greater resources.

Bring back Nolan. He can wear Sansabelt slacks and polka dot shirts.

Yes, I've wondered it quite a bit actually. I think the phonegate scandal he was a part of at OU was the death knell to his career. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I definitely think better candidates for that job are available, but the question posed by MsPS was who could they hire who would do a good job but wouldn't use it as a stepping-stone job. That's why I said Hoffman. It would probably be a reach though, especially with the alumni.

EDIT: He is the head coach at Mercer and the program has improved each of his 3 seasons there. For the first time in school history, they have won double-digit conference games for 3 seasons in a row. This past year they ended with a losing record (15-19) but lost 2 seniors in mid-season. He's a good coach, IMO.

Ive heard the guy at UT-Arlington is their top choice.

I'm still not sure why they fired Wojcik, when they went 10-6 in CUSA play this year and had two great in-state recruits coming in for next year. Weird...

Because he wasn't getting them any closer to playing in the NCAA Tournament.

If I were Tulsa, I'd hire Fran Fraschilla yesterday.
8 of 9 years as a head coach (inlcuding his last) he had winning records.
Only losing record was first year at St. Johns (when it was in pretty bad shape).
Of course, maybe that's why he left after two seasons.

International NBA Draft 'expert' for ESPN. Excellent analyst, that has spent years making connections all over the country, but specifically in 'Big 12 country'. I mean, nobody is perfect, he did fired at UNM ten years ago, but look at what Lavin was able to do recruiting-wise at St. Johns after being an ESPN analyst so long.

Every single, solitary one of those kids being recruited knows him.
They all watch ESPN. That kind of crap matters.
