Isaiah Austin

I hate to hear that.

I'm hope he can go back to school without having to go into debt. I wonder how the NCAA would look at something like that.

Wow, Marfan's. Glad he was formally diagnosed as that can have serious consequences if you're not aware and prepared.

Austin has had some tough breaks in life, hope he can overcome them and prosper.

Seems like a really good kid.

It is sad. I hope he comes out of this in fine shape.

Man as if he hasn't gone through enough already. Kid needs to be able to get his degree.

It's amazing to me that they even found this rare genetic disorder during an NBA routine physical in the first place. That's very impressive. Probably saved his life.

Another tough break for a reportedly good kid. I hate to see it.

I have a friend with Marfan's and Austin is kind of a poster child for it: tall, skinny, funny curvature of the spine (scoliosis), etc. I'm kind of surprised he hadn't already been tested for it since it's a genetic disorder. I'm certainly not surprised that the NBA tested him for it.

That is heartbreaking. The bad news is that his basketball playing career is over; the NBA dream is gone. The good news is that the medical issue was discovered, and Isaiah Austin still has the opportunity to have a wonderful life.

Best wishes to Isaiah Austin.

Correct! The amazing thing he was never tested for it before.

just read that he has a million dollar policy that he will now be able to cash .. still a bad deal for him but that tax free money will help

I would not be so quick to assume that even if the article said it. The policy likely insured against an injury. A genetic condition is probably not an injury and insurance companies are not known for their generosity.

Well that is sad to see for him. I guess the silver lining is the disability policy and that he found and and can manage the disorder. Hopefully he will finish his degree and if he still wants to be involved in basketball maybe he can find a way too do it. Good luck to him.

With his insurance policy it's a moot point, but pretty much every school is going to be allowing kids who leave the program to return and finish up school.
