Jacob Hammond has committed to OU

Let the deadbeats who are already dissing this kid go jump into a cesspool.
He's got great size, big body, a hard worker, room to improve, what do you naysayers want? Another 6'7, 175 lb toothpick who's out for himself.
This is the type of 4 year college player OU needs.

Bingo

This kid needs to quit school ball, go to juco, average 5 points and 4 rebounds and this board will fart sprinkles.

I thought the vast majority of comments on here have been very positive.

This has been great news day for the Sooners. Hammond is the kind of kid you don't want OU to pass on in state.

In 2014 we'll have at least five Oklahoma boys on scholarship.

Spangler
Neal
Cole
Hammond
Woodard

Wonder when the last time that happened was?

Pretty cool. Let's make it 7 with Mead and Harris.

Harris I want. Mead, I think we can find better talent.

I for one like his video. Shows a nice shot. Good hands. And nice skills.
It's easier to teach being physical than those things. Those were sophomore highlights as well. Once he fills out his frame then he will be a very good four year player for us.
Boomer!

Great looking 16 yr old soph, now starting his Jr. year. You cant teach size or really even soft hands. Who says he cant grow a tad more? Most arent done growing at 16.

Great addition today!

meh. cant be worse than that ginger kid capel recruited tho.

Very proud of LK and staff. Love to see the in-state kids staying. My boy has gone to lk's camp the last two years and it is amazing to see him around kids. Very positive and passionate. He is an awesome representative to our school.

I'm impressed with his touch and how he keeps the ball up high. also a pretty quick release.

He can almost touch the rim flat footed. That kind of length is important. A 16 year old with that kind of heighth can not expect to be real strong at that age. Too early to label him. Lot of development time left.

Man, we sure do have alot of internet tough guys on this forum. Last I checked a forum is about expressing ones opinion. If infact I am wrong I will only post positive stuff about the program and refrain from anything else.

I said "by the video alone im not that impressed". Thats far from dissing the kid. Infact when WT said he was only entering his junior season and still has time to develop I agreed with him. Me potentially comparing him to bookout is anything far from a diss, that in my book is a complement.

I guess I am just tired of offering guys and then they turn out to be nothing. We have offered a ton of bigs over the last few years that were no were near big 12 potential. I realize that was capel not kruger but still I have that bitter taste in my mouth.

You should change your screen name to internet tough guy...

I made virtually the same comments as you did in another thread, but also acknowledged that his shortcomings were typical of a kid that age and that height and received no negative feed back whatsoever. While it's harder to discern than in person, it is possible to detect "tone" on a message board. You can't fault this kid for the frustration you have expressed in the bolded potion of what I quoted and I think the response you received, while albiet a little harsh, reflected how you chose to approach this commitment.

Im not really excited about him just basing this off the video. Seems to play below the rim. Hope he isnt just a filler.

Who knows, maybe he will turn into a bookout type. I would love another round of bookout.

I will take it! He's going to get better and you never know, by the time he's a SR. or JR., he may be a bigtime force inside. With the height he is definitely going to alter some shots and get rebounds at the very least. We haven't had many around here who can effectively do that since BG left.

The problem you run into if you take a wait and see approach is that it gives other teams times to recruit him later, after he does improve. He already said one of the biggest reasons he chose OU was b/c LK was in on him from day 1, and he didn't forget that. At some point, we have to trust LK to evaluate these guys, and offer based on potential.

I think that CLK has shown the ability to do that based on his track record.

Exactly! If the reports that Hammond has only been playing basketball a little more than two years are accurate, his development has been nothing short of remarkable to this point in his career. Who knows how good he'll be when he graduates from high school two years from now? His work ethic alone almost guarantees that he will be much improved when it's time for him to suit up in the C&C.
