Jamal to transfer

I think so too. Umoja Gibson. 6'1 PG. Averaged 10 ppg both his freshman and sophomore years. He averaged 14.5 last year.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense with Harmon at PG and Gibson reportedly leaving because he wants to be the featured PG, but I won't complain about it. He has what JB didn't - the ability to put the ball in the basket.

Harmon might slide to the 2 (wed be short tho) if he can get his shot %'s up more and consistent

Jamal can’t shoot, Sky. Harmon had a mediocre fr season but I’m confident he will be a really good pg next year.

His freshman year, JB shot 39% overall, 40% from deep (on 67 attempts), and 64% from the free throw line.

Last season, he shot 35% from the field, 24% from deep (88), 79% from the free throw line.

Harmon shot 37% from the field, 35% fron deep (97), and 70% from the free throw line.

Sorry, I don't see a huge difference there--certainly nothing that makes me view Harmon as head and shoulders better than Bieniemy.

Comparing 1 yr to 2 yrs has its limitations.

One player does not have to be head and shoulders better to get the nod.

Until things play out it is all conjecture.

Jamal left on his own accord. We have to deal with it, be it good or not.

Last year the 3 point line moved back. So what Jamal shot at the shorter 3 point line doesn’t matter

I knew if I cited just the 2020 season, people would squawk. "You can't compare JB's sophomore season to DH's freshman campaign!"

Or if I compared just the two freshman seasons, someone would question that (and sure enough...)

So I provided info for all three seasons, and still some aren't satisfied.

I'll just let the numbers speak for themselves, reiterating only that I see nothing in the numbers that ranks Harmon above JB to any decisive degree.

I totally agree Sky, and since their numbers are so similar I would argue that JB's defense and intangibles put him over the top.

35% vs 24% from 3 does speak for its self. JB can’t shoot. In
Lon’s offense if you can shoot you are a liability.

Either comparing 1 season to 2 seasons has its limitations or it does not not. It has nothing to do with complaining about it.

There is nothing to be satisfied with. We have no choice in the issue. None.

I'm not doing a direct comparison. I'm just providing the stats we have available to us. As I said (and has been borne out), had I gone with just one season from each player, someone would have complained about that, too, no matter which of JB's seasons I chose.

Picking one stat from one season to label a player a bad shooter is questionable, especially since he led the team in 3pt shooting the season before. Did JB fall off in 2020? Without a doubt. It could have had to do with the line being moved back or maybe it was just an off year, I don't know. Or it could be that his solid 2019 shooting was a fluke. None of us can say for sure.

I vote yes to the above. And did they close down Nathan's?

Bienemy wasn’t even guarded most of the time and he still shot 24% from 3. He had so many wide open air balls or shots that hit all backboard. At this level, you should never really be missing that badly. Jamal is a decent guard but nothing that we can’t replace and quickly.

I think the guy while not the best by any means will be missed by OU. I didn't see anyone else that was that much better than him on the team

This.... it's hard to even really consider a percentage from him for this reason. Teams were purposefully not even guarding him, and he was still air-balling and shooting a low percentage, as you mentioned.

24% from 3 isn't good in a normal situation when you are being guarded, like Reaves... But 24% when the other team WANTS you to shoot is a whole other thing.

There's one possible explanation that no one has mentioned:

Perhaps Jamal was a regular reader of this board. ;)

Maybe he just couldn't take watching Reaves play anymore. I know if I were on a team where a coach let a guy play like that I'd transfer too.

Something must have happened to make him completely lose confidence. Last year it seemed like he shot very few 3s but he had a very good percentage. It also seemed like a bunch of his misses barely rimmed out. I was begging him to shoot it more, as were many others. Compare that to this year... I cringed each time he shot as the season wore on. I don't know the answer to this question.. but did he work at it? He seems like the type of kid that would have. Actually more than anybody else. You can improve your shooting and gain confidence if you work hard at it, that's just a fact. Huggins is always ragging on his guys to the media about that. And it's true. That's why Hield put up the numbers he did. Cousins had a terrible shot when he got here, and look how much he improved.

It's too bad, I was hoping he'd improve and be a four year guy for OU. Seemed like a great kid. But the thing that makes it worse is the fact I don't think Kruger and his staff have the ability to recruit anyone better. I hope i'm wrong. I may be? A couple of insiders have dropped hints that there will be good news on that front soon. As good of kids as they were, I hope they're alot better than the last two grad transfers. It would also be nice to get to the point where OU doesn't have to rely on grad transfers. How nice would it be to sign a hotshot high school guard or two again? That can be developed, and will stay around? Man, forgot what that feels like!

I may be the one to blame. I posted a link to our game against UNT last season. The cover picture showed Umoja Gibson (a guard OU is recruiting) beating JB off of the dribble.

I would like to think Jamal is not that thin skinned. But you never know what might have triggered a change of heart that seemed to catch everyone off guard.

I trust you will be transferring your fan loyalties to a different school then? Let me know if you need any help finding a new team’s message board. Happy to oblige.

Remember that he claimed to have stopped watching the team in late January? As I’ve said before, it’s amazing that he seemingly knows so much about how the games went without watching the last six weeks of the season!

Good points. Positive posts or relevant news. Is always welcome. I get very tired of reading the “put downs“ of some posters. If I was a Recruit and read OU Hoops regularly I would have my doubts about coming to OU. Seeing the the lack of support by students and others would not make it an enjoyable place I would want play at. I am of the old school and believe they have a right to their opinions but probably should keep their opinions off of public boards. True fans win together with the team and celebrate but fully support the team when they lose.
If they want to post negative opinions and put downs put them on the horns or cowboy board.
