Jeff Capel Article

Just got hired at Pittsburgh. Surprised he left since he's been long rumored to be the coach in-waiting at Duke after K retires. But if he does well at Pitt, I'm sure a reunion at Duke is in the works.

Re: Capel to be Pitt’s next coach

Ah didn't see this thread. Surprised he left since he's been long rumored to be the coach in-waiting at Duke after K retires. There's even been rumors that he's been coaching more so than Coach K this season. But I'm sure if he does well at Pitt, a reunion to Duke will be in the works.

I think Capel will do well at Pitt.He will be able to recruit that's for sure. Now can he do it without cheating or not getting caught doing it.

Re: Capel to be Pitt’s next coach

Seems to fit my gut feeling that capel wasnt going ti be handed the duke reins after all..

Recruiting! has he learned anything about what to do if you don't get your #1 target at a position?

Or that the character of the player is as important as the skills.

Re: Capel to be Pitt’s next coach

Guerin Emig column in May 2010 entitled: Was recruiting success worth it?

NORMAN — The reason Jeff Capel added Oronde Taliaferro to his Oklahoma basketball staff in May 2007 was simple. It was all over the press release announcing Taliaferro's hiring May 1, 2007, when Capel mentioned the words "recruit," "recruiter" and "recruiting" in his statement.

By the start of Taliaferro's third year at OU, it appeared the Sooners were reaping his benefits. Taliaferro helped land two of the three McDonald's All-Americans who had joined the program since his hiring. One, Willie Warren, helped take OU to the 2009 Elite Eight. The other, Tiny Gallon, was expected to partner with Warren to keep the Sooners in national contention in 2009-10.

Now, 2 1/2 months after the end of Taliaferro's third season, it's worth asking: Was that success worth the price OU could pay?

It's also worth asking: What else was happening on Taliaferro's recruiting trail?

Re: Capel to be Pitt’s next coach

We'll see. I don't think it's a given that he does well there.

Good luck to Coach Capel. His progress at Pitt will be interesting to observe.

Re: Capel to be Pitt’s next coach

Pitt fired jamie dixon then whomever they had, for jeff capel? OUCH

Stallings was a terrible hire and this one isn't much better. That AD has to be in trouble.

I hope Capel succeeds but I'm more glad he isn't still in Norman than that he's at Pittsburgh. Sorry not sorry. :ez-roll:

BTW...firing Dixon and hiring Stallings is eerily similar to firing Gary Gibbs and hiring Schnellenberger. :ez-roll:

You see UT-Arlington fired their all time winningest coach because they want to be UMBC and Loyola-chicago?? Lol (UT-A apparently missed the tournament by 1 game BTW)

Some ADs are soooooo dumb. Talk about short sighted
