WACO, Texas -- Former UCLA player J'mison Morgan has been granted an NCAA waiver that will allow him to play at Baylor immediately without sitting out a season.

Baylor coach Scott Drew said Monday that the 6-foot-10 junior center from Dallas will be eligible to play once he completes the necessary NCAA paperwork. Morgan is already enrolled in classes at Baylor and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Morgan was dismissed from UCLA's team in March after being suspended a game for missing a team meeting and didn't play in the Bruins' two Pac-10 tournament games. He also missed seven games recovering from a partially torn quadriceps.

In 40 games as a reserve his two seasons at UCLA, Morgan averaged 2.1 points and 1.1 rebounds a game.

It will be interesting to see how Baylor uses Bobo. I watched him in open gym and he is very tough to stop on the blocks. Good footwork and soft hands. He was 290lbs as a freshman at UCLA and he is now carrying only about 245lbs and looks fit.

He's not quick- his foot speed will remind people of Josh Lomers and Luis Colon. I don't think he's as physically strong as either of them. But he's a better offensive player than both of those guys. I think he will fit in Baylor's system the way Josh Lomers did- big, long guy in the middle who can occupy a team's most physical player and allow guys like Quincy Acy, Perry Jones, Cory Jefferson and Anthony Jones not to have a bigger body on them.

I think this helps Baylor a lot in the wars with teams that have deep front lines: Gonzaga, Kansas, Kansas State and A&M.

DFW,

So you are just expecting him to be tall and grab some rebounds? Pretty low expectations...

If perry jones plays to potential I don't see how bobo ever see the floor more than < 10 minutes.

From his stand point, He needed to sit out a year. It would have helped his game out a bunch. From Baylor's perspective, this could help them out a lot. Make no mistake about it, this guy is nothing more than having ryan wright on the bench.

I was VERY skeptical on Bobo when Baylor announced he was transferring to Baylor. The reputation was soft, lazy and not a serious bone in his body. I don't know how and why he burned bridges with Howland at UCLA. But I have been impressed with his attitude, work ethic and skill this summer from what I have witnessed in open gyms.

Baylor is extremely athletic on their front line but I had worried preseason that the teams I mentioned above and OSU would try to turn games against Baylor into ultra physical foul fests to limit the athleticism of Acy, Perry Jones, Cory Jefferson and Anthony Jones. I don't think Dragan Sekelja is ready for prime time for Baylor but Bobo is. If I were to bet how the 200 minutes per game is distributed at Baylor, I would guess:

35- Lace Dunn
30- AJ Walton
27- Quincy Acy
25- Perry Jones
20- Anthony Jones
18- Fred Ellis
15- Cory Jefferson
15- Nolan Dennis
15- Bobo Morgan

Baylor loves to run set plays to start halves and out of timeouts to isolate their post player. If Bobo gets 15 minutes per game, I think you will see 6 points and 5 rebounds from him. Nothing earth shattering, but I think he will be a valuable piece of their national championship team.

Now you are just talkin crazy man

DFW honest question, is there a Baylor player in the past couples year you haven't liked or something? Outside of saying el Dragon isn't ready for prime time I just haven't heard you say anything bad about recent players for Drew.

Kevin Rogers- wasted tremendous talent; locker room cancer; mentally weak... Although I am grateful to him for the way he played in the post season his senior year. A light went on but much too late. Kim Mulkey would probably agree with me also. Kevin probably cost the women a national championship as well.

It's hard not to like the current cast. Aside from one talented guy who will probably end up being a bust, all of the players on the current team and last year's team work hard; represent the university well; understand the team concept, etc... That is a credit to Drew that he has made good recruiting choices on character. He certainly rolled the dice as he was building the program. Some worked out well who had sketchy reputations in high school (Dunn). Others did not (Rogers).
