Joe C. not a happy camper

I guess we'll also get to see how great a coach Travis Ford is without James Anderson and Munelo. They are going to have Moses, Pilgrim, Penn, Page, and who else? That is going to be one small backcourt.

Gulley?

I know they picked up the juco big man from Midland, the #1 ranked juco, who averaged 14/10 and JP Olukemi, a juco who is there now who we recruited I believe.

I read an article about Markel Brown from Louisiana on the net. The writer said he was the best player he had seen in the last 10 years in La.

The aggies will have several holes to fill but it looks like they will have a really good front court. Pilgrim is going to be one of the best inside guys in the Big12.

OSU will still be good because they play decent defense. They won't fall off like we did this year.

No, but we can judge our teams by the dedication they exhibit, the hard work they put in, the attitude they display, their behavior on and off the court, and the grit and determination with which they compete.

In each of these areas, this team fell ridiculously short. It's been said a million times, but many who feel that no one should be complaining refuse to hear it, so I'll say it again: It's not primarily the losses (though those are frustrating in and of themselves, of course); it's the way we lost -- over and over, early and late in the season. The list of acceptable losses, games in which the team played its heart out but came up just short against a superior squad, is a very short one, indeed.

There's no excuse for any Sooner squad not playing hard-nosed defense. None. And you can cite other programs that had disappointing seasons all you like, but lackadaisical, lazy basketball is unacceptable, period.

Amen!

all props to skyvue. losing stinks, but when you're embarrassed at the lack of effort and fundamentals its a totally different story.

Really? I may have missed it, but I don't remember any talk on here regarding YoYo being, possibly, part of the problem.

I don't think anyboyd said that but I do think some have speculated that the loss of Darby was a big blow to the program.

I agree completely.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but IMO you guys still waiting for Travis Ford to fall on his behind are in for a rude awakening.

Travis Ford is the least of our worries. We need a comprehensive recruiting stategy, a comprehensive motivational strategy, and a comprehensive ingame adjustment strategy. Not to mention a comprehensive training and practice stategy.

WE CANT SEND EVERYONE TO THE CALI GURU!!!!!!!!!

Really dumb write up imo. Not a single quote from the OU AD, yet good old Dave knows exactly what he is thinking....ummmm

Also how did TMG not live up to the hype? He was never known as a good defender. He put up great numbers and did his best work even after Willie declined/got injured and he was the focus of the other teams' scouting reports.

Are some of you now ready to blame Joe C rather than Capel? I do think Joe C is ultimatley responsible. By that I mean if Capel does not work out, that is Joe C's fault. However, I don't think you may remotely blame Joe C for the pathetic performance this season. It seems to me OU had all the tools necssary to field a competative basketball team but the coaches and players did not produce.

You cannot blame Joe C....

Just to make it clear, I am not blaming Joe C. I just thought some of what I read suggested some fans think Joe C should take some of the blame. The only thing I would blame on Joe C is the decision to hire Jeff Capel if (and that is still a big if) Jeff Capel is fired.

+1

Joe C isnt blind. He saw the performance, or lack thereof, of the team not only on the court but off the court also. If Capel doesnt work out yes he deserves some of the blame but to blame him for the loose ship and lack of control that Capel showed this year isnt fair.

I can bet you one of the 1st things that will occur is that he likely will be a bit more hands on regarding what Capel does this year and them having a real heart to heart meeting regarding the implosion of a season we had will be 1st on the list.

Would you like to wager on that? I would bet big money that Joe C does his job the exact same way he has in the past. Everything I have ever read suggests Joe C's strength is that he understands he is not a coach. He does not tell his coaches how to coach. He simply runs the AD.

I've had the pleasure of talking to Joe C., he is certainly frustrated by things; however, and in spite of the article, he is NOT reactionary.

Some of you are going to feel like FOOLS this time next year.

i would say yo yo deserves as much blame as joe c.

Why? He did manage to keep Tiny from blowing up like a blimp. There's something to be said for that.

Someone asked me today, "Do you remember Heart, Hardwood, and Hustle? What the hell happened to that?"

I honestly thing Capel thought he could turn OU into Duke and this just isn't going to happen here. He recruited scoring and let defense and character go by the wayside. I doubt he will make that mistake again. Simply being young and liking rap isn't enough to get through to lazy knuckleheads that have been pampered way too much.

I see this as being very likely. Where did Darby Rich go?

seniorsooner is correct in that Capel and Darby had a "mutual" parting of ways. After he left Anthony Kim asked him to help him out and he also picked up a S&C job with SHSU(Sam Houston St.). He is still working with Anthony Kim as well as some private clients. I commented early on in the season that I thought the lost of Darby would hurt more than some realized and I was questioned how that would be possible. Lately we are seeing more and more articles about how true this might be. Don't get me wrong I am a huge JS fan, I just think YO YO is young and is just over his head at this point in time, not to mentioned Darby is one of the best in the country at what he does and also cooperating discipline in his workouts. Luckily YO YO and Darby and good friends so hopefully he can give him some pointers. To be honest Cade Davis could be a better on heck of a S&C coach.
