Joe C. not a happy camper

How was Joe C. to react last night? Was he supposed to be kicked back in his chair with his feet up on the press table, lobbing popcorn into the air and seeing if he could catch it in his mouth? Of course he's not happy camper. Nobody is right now.

And what is Joe C. going to do about it? Demand a new strength coach? Wasn't it his call on the Szendrei hire? If I remember correctly, SoonerQuick (who apparently has worked in the strength program at OU) said it was Joe C's final call on the strength coach. Please correct me if I'm wrong, Quick.

And, after all, firing Capel would be an admission of his own failure because he hired him. If this doesn't work out with Capel, the ultimate blame is in on Joe C. himself for hiring the youngest head coach in the game at the time. No?

My goodness, Castiglione couldn't close the deal on Turgeon and now he's risen A&M above us. Joe C. needs to look in the mirror a bit too. Or does he get the lifetime pass because of the Stoops hire?

Really? I thought Yoyo would be a hit with the players since he was a player himself just a few years ago.

I'm surprised that Tony Crocker turned on Capel and the staff like that.

It would surprise me as well; but I take every Sittler article with a grain of salt as well. It could be accurate for all I know, but it seems odd that it raises issues that even some long time posters on here haven't even heard of.

Keep in mind that this is speculation.

Exactly! And who are these 'insiders' he speaks of? That Tony Crocker was the ONLY one to stick to his pledge to Coach Capel and OU speaks volumes about his character. I just don't see Crock as a culprit in any of this.

there are a lot of assumptions and incorrect data/grammar in this article. Who wrote it? It starts with the first paragraph

Was under the assumption as well that Darby was shown the door by Castiglione.

We'll see. Keep in mind, A&M was pretty dependent on upper-classmen this year. I'd assume they have a substantial drop-off next year. Plus, THIS horrible Sooner team had them beat at their place THIS year, so let's not act like Turgeon is a miracle-worker just yet...

You said it for me, too! Well done!!! :clap

I'm going to say some moron wrote this article because this isn't Jeff's fifth OU team, unless he was secretly coaching when Kelvin was here. It actually seems like a knee-jerk football fan wrote this article. I say they boot Ol' Roy from UNC as well. He had more talent and more returning talent for them to be where they are at. How about Barnes at UT? From #1 to out of the top 25, a feat so rare you really have to search to find teams that have accomplished that, and they have way way more talent than OU. Let's also ignore losing our main rebounding and low-post defense to the NBA in Blake and Taylor. Also, just forget about AJ and his lock-down D on anyone from a 1 to a 3. We should always base or teams off pre-season rankings and publications.

I guess we'll also get to see how great a coach Travis Ford is without James Anderson and Munelo. They are going to have Moses, Pilgrim, Penn, Page, and who else? That is going to be one small backcourt.

exactly. and maybe I have just never heard these phrases but these seem wrong

The look on Joe Castiglione's face Wednesday night spoke a thousands of words. But he wasn't saying of them.
WTH?

That is why I figured it was Sittler.

Great, an article that gives the pessimistic naysayers a shread of credibility to their coaching change arguement. Awesome!

Of course, it was as poorly thought out as it was written and nothing spells accurate information like a blog posting from the tulsa world.

His face spoke a thousand words, but only Sittler was able to read exactly what those words were.

No, but we can judge our teams by the dedication they exhibit, the hard work they put in, the attitude they display, their behavior on and off the court, and the grit and determination with which they compete.

In each of these areas, this team fell ridiculously short. It's been said a million times, but many who feel that no one should be complaining refuse to hear it, so I'll say it again: It's not primarily the losses (though those are frustrating in and of themselves, of course); it's the way we lost -- over and over, early and late in the season. The list of acceptable losses, games in which the team played its heart out but came up just short against a superior squad, is a very short one, indeed.

There's no excuse for any Sooner squad not playing hard-nosed defense. None. And you can cite other programs that had disappointing seasons all you like, but lackadaisical, lazy basketball is unacceptable, period.

NO ONE can say I am not Mr. Positive when it comes to OU basketball...and I agree with Sky 100%.

If you don't "get" anything else all season you can at least learn to leave it on the court. They didn't. In fact they REGRESSED in this area.

This is one of the best post on this board. It's 100% spot on.
