Jordan Woodard making history | The Oklahoman

Odd that Tramel failed to mention the new emphasis on the rules as a reason Woodard may be getting to the line more. That doesn't take anything away from Jordan's ability to penetrate defenses and find a way to score or draw fouls. No doubt about it, that's something he does well. He's an amazing point guard, especially for a freshman! I'm just not sure comparing him with point guards of the past is a fair comparison?

Either way, though, it's good to see an OU player get the free publicity!

Tramel probably doesn't know there is a new emphasis on the rules

He will after he reads this. :ez-laugh:

Seriously, Tramel may not read this board, but I know for a fact that reporters from the Oklahoman have frequented this board in the past.

I'm just glad there are reporters from the Oklahoman who care about OU basketball.

Yeah, me too.

I remember last year when posters here complained last year about the young gal who used to cover OU basketball. What was her name, Stephanie something?

I, for one, appreciated her efforts in producing a number of feature stories throughout the season, particularly those about our players. We have seen more of that lately. Just nothing like it was when my girl Stephanie was covering OU basketball. Wish she was still around.

It is fair to compare him to Mookie Blaylock, Ricky Grace and guys of that era or before.

As Woodard's shot improves and his percentage improves, he will be scoring more of his points from the field. If he gets to where he can finish at the rim on a consistent basis his free throw numbers will decline.......because they then become an "and one".

And, it's not fair to compare anyone to Mookie!

I hope they do back off Woodard and give him open shots. He is hitting 33% of his 3 pointers when they are not daring him to shoot. I suspect if they treat him like teams treated Doug Gotblieb, he will make them pay for that decision.

I looked up Woodards 3 point percentage to write this and noticed that Neal is up to .483 on the season. If you don't know it, that is outstanding.

I'm not as high on woodard as some. He hasn't proven that he can shoot it or finish at the rim. he is excellent at getting in the lane but he has to get better at finishing.

.25% FG isn't going to cut it.

She was good at the human side of things (profiling the players and such), but awful at the sports stuff. As a 22 year old without a lot of sports knowledge she was in way over her head on the OU beat. They moved her to an area she was better suited and qualified for.

Neal is relatively big, athletic, and can shoot the ball. I have to admit I'm surprised that he hasn't even really stayed in the rotation until this year.

OU's website says he is shooting .343 not .250. While you would like to see a higher percentage than .343 you have to consider his free throw attempts when evaluating that statistic. He is .776 on 125 attempts. If you simplify things and say that is 62 additional shots at .776 percent his effective shooting percentage is actually higher.

Qualified or not, I still miss her stories.

It's good to know she was moved to another area and not tossed aside like a rolled up newspaper [pun intentional]. :D
