Josh Pastner makes $880k a year

imo pastner in place of capel gets N-daiye and lamb, possibly terrence jones...

Pastner would be an amazing hire, better than anyone could possibly think of at this point. But why would he leave Memphis?

I don't really think he would either, but I'd be happy with the hire.

Buzz part 2. Rumor is Josh is working on an extension as of today to stay at Memphis. OU would lose in a bidding war if Memphis (and their AD RC) wants to keep Josh. It's likely that he's using OU to get more money. That's my bet.

He's been a head coach for two seasons... And made the NCAA's once...

Marquette isn't near as good a job as Memphis is right now.

He's been an assistant at big time programs, been around big time college basketball. Much better resume than Capel like some are on here. But he's not coming to OU.

Kelvin had been a head coach for seven years and made a grand total of one NCAA tournament when he was hired at Oklahoma. You have the evaluate more than that about a potential coach.

I'd feel better if he had been a head coach for seven seasons. The NCAA part doesn't bother me as much. We just fired a guy that many claimed didn't have enough experience, now we want to hire a guy with two years of head coaching experience.

Pastner is 10x the recruiter that Capel is/was. Pastner won't have to go after the Burger Boys that have known issues. He'll actually be able to recruit some that are solid players, AND people. And his bench players, or secondary players? They'll serve a purpose. They'll be athletic, and they'll fit his system. They will play hard. And while I'm not crazy about an up-tempo, pressure style (not my cup of tea), I'd rather have that then to bring in some coach who's UPSIDE is a consistent 4-6th place finish, and early outing in the tournament.

I hope so. That was one of my beefs with Capel. Everybody was always talking about what a great recruiter he was, but the guys he signed other than Griffin, all were malcontents that had known issues and most every other program had backed off.

Memphis is a better basketball job than OU. We already went over all the points in another thread.

It is funny that bigOSU thinks the north texas coach is ready for OU but not the memphis coach? ha ha

It's a fair argument.

I do not think I agree though. But I am usually wrong.

i understand that, and i know memphis will be able to match any contract. it's just weird to me that if it was his purpose to leverage more money, why did he take his name out of consideration the first time around? if his sole purpose in doing this was for money, he would have flirted harder with the schools that wanted him a week ago.

I bought in to Capel being a great recruiter too, but what exactly was that based on? Did he recruit really good talent to VCU? Looking back, I'm not sure he did. Was it simply b/c he was young, black, and had ties to Duke? I don't know, just asking.

I've read very little over there, but I guess they have a stingy AD.

Didn't Capel recruit Maynor and Larry Sanders to VCU?

That is talent, iyam.

Two other things that are rumored (one by Dan Wolken)....Pastner was offered both the NCSU and the Tennessee job...obviously, declined both.
