Josh Pastner makes $880k a year

Two other things that are rumored (one by Dan Wolken)....Pastner was offered both the NCSU and the Tennessee job...obviously, declined both.

OU is a better job than both of those schools so it would make sense that he would turn down both those jobs.

It is funny that bigOSU thinks the north texas coach is ready for OU but not the memphis coach? ha ha

The North Texas coach has been a head coach since 2001, and rebuilt one of the worst programs in the country. They have won at least 20 games 6 years in a row, gone to some NCAA Tournaments, won their conference, etc.

In 2001 Josh Pastner was a senior in college.

Didnt you just make a thread about age and experience being important?

Has everyone forgotten how many players left, when Calipari left? Pastner has shown that he can recruit and coach young talent. Look at his record in close games.

P.S. How can mention Pastners inexperience while endorsing Terry Evans in your sig?

Yep, and just b/c he isn't known for it, doesn't mean he isn't a decent x's and o's coach. I don't really know, but I saw him, live, making adjustments in the Arizona game. Enough so that it changed my opinion on him to where I'd be okay with him.

Capel recruited Maynor but not Larry Sanders to VCU. Maynor is basically the best player ever at VCU, has the most career points, assists and steals, including a conference POY, 2 NCAA tournaments and 1 dagger in Scheyer's eyeballs. He also signed Nick George, BA Walker, Jesse Pellot-Rosa, Troy Godwin, Jamal Shuler, all 1000 point scorers over their career, along with everyone on the team that beat Duke in 07.

Buzz part 2. Rumor is Josh is working on an extension as of today to stay at Memphis. OU would lose in a bidding war if Memphis (and their AD RC) wants to keep Josh. It's likely that he's using OU to get more money. That's my bet.

considering the way this is playing out I'd bet the same thing. he has no real interest, Memphis probably didn't come up with a big enough raise so now it's time to talk to OU to up the ante. Whoop dee doo.

1.) He is 31 years old, the youngest head coach in the country.

2.) He has no track record of success. Nobody even knows anything about him, as a coach. He has never taken a struggling program, and built it back up to success. He isnt established as a coach in any way, shape, or form. He isnt really known to do anything except recruit good players to Arizona. Again, he has no track record of anything except being a good recruiting assistant.

3.) He took over a job that was probably the most well oiled machine in the country at Memphis. They destroyed that league year-in and year-out under Calipari. Nobody even had a chance at them, really. First year under Pastner, they go 10-6 and upset UTEP to make the NCAA Tournament.

He isnt ready for a big job like OU... OU needs a guy with a proven track record of success, a guy who has built up a program, who has a track record of success, who will bring an identity with him, etc. Not some 30 year old guy who has about 10 months of head coaching experience in his whole life.

Last year was Pastner's first year at Memphis.
He lost SEVEN players to the NBA or graduation when Calipari left.
And 4 out of the 5 commits Memphis had decommitted.

He then took that team and went 13-3 in C-USA.
Not terrible.

I remember hearing a couple radio / TV interviews with him after he got the Memphis job and I was really impressed.

I think OU would get themselves a good coach if they were able to get him from Memphis. Only worry I'd have with him is that he would leave for a top tier job.

That could happen. But when would that be. 2 years? 3 years? 8 years? If he leaves for a better job it means he will have done well here. We could do worse than that.

Josh is NOT coming to Oklahoma and isn't on that plane. :facepalm

What does a flight from Memphis to OKC have to do with anything? That log shows that the same flight has taken place almost every day for the past two weeks?

Looks like that flight is nothing more than coincidence.
