all is not good. damn. apologies for my original post.

i saw taliaferro in vegas this weekend, and all i could think was how great it is to not have to worry about that kind of stuff with the staff we have now. so to be possibly going through this again is just heart-breaking.

It's not the staff you have to worry about.

The sad part......our players are not good enough to have to pay! Good.....not that good!

I don't think it happened in Europe. If so we'd have heard and Yoyo would've been shipped away then

That's good to hear, because I refuse to believe that LK or any of his assistants knew what was going on.

Of course not. They make it a priority not to know. Once something is reported they have to do something about it.

Let me get this straight. We are on probation because Gallon's highschool would not release records without being paid?

Nevermind the booster and the "illegal payment." A highschool would not help one of its own generate a better future until they were paid?

Welcome to basketball factories and "prep schools". Oak Hill writes the book on that stuff.

A college won't release your transcripts without you paying your bill, why would a prep school?

I would close both before I would let that happen. It defeats the purpose and ideals of educational institutions.

It happens at public schools. I now of one student where the old school wouldn't release his IEP records until they paid for a small fee. That is crazy.

Well, do they provide scholarships or not? Yes, they do. Plus, they recruit talented players and make a profit off getting their teams on TV at times.

Prep schools can prepare students for college and sometimes do a better job than certain public schools but not everyone who goes to Oak Hill is rich like Grant Hill. When they accept less wealthy students they're entering into a quid pro quo contract. They know exactly whether the parents can afford their schooling and shouldn't penalize the kids when they have the responsibility of due diligence.

Then why did he owe $3000? Not trying to be sarcastic, that's a serious question.

Even if prep schools provide scholarships, they may not pay for everything. I know Tiny was the 2nd leading scorer and leading rebounder the year he attended Oak Hill.... so he wasn't just a scrub.

True, they may not pay for everything. I may never know how much Tiny's family agreed to pay, but Oak Hill charges $ 28, 145 for tuition, room, board and books. That's more than a lot of major colleges.

I expect there are a lot of Tiny Gallon type situations with less wealthy families sending their star athletes off to play at fancy-schmancy prep academies. Even if they agree to only pay 10% their fees are so overblown it still may be more than they can afford.

Still, I think there are better ways to collect from these partial schollie students than withholding their transcripts.

True, Tiny wasn't a scrub. He was the leading scorer in the McDs AA game. He may have been a little naive, though. He committed to OU with the assumption Blake Griffin was returning for his Junior season.

When I read that, I was hoping Tiny knew something we didn't. With Blake and Tiny underneath and WW and TMG out front, this could have been a good team, especially if Blake could have whipped TMG and Tiny into the program.

Thank goodness. Glad this seems to have been very isolated and dealt with as soon as discovered.

It's nice to see how this worked out. OU was up front, took immediate actions, and the NCAA seemed to do the right thing.
