Word on the street is Self is trying to dump him. He committed early and will sign next fall. He's a 6-9 ish 240-pound kid from Plano, Texas.

He's ranked in ESPN's Top 60 for 2012 and 97th by Rivals. I believe he visited OU a month or so before committing to Kansas, so we'd probably be back in the mix if this is true.

Make no mistake about it though, this is a rumor I read on a Texas site, so obviously take it FWIW.

Looks good to me. Like Nick Thompson, but plus 30 pounds and with skills...

What site? I'd be very surprised. Haven't read anything about that on any of the KU sites and Zach and Julius Randle are close. They are both coming to the K-State game for ESPN Gameday.

Orangebloods.com premium board. Post came from one of their posters who is a popular insider named "shaunsters". I've been following that board for several years and the guy is right about 75 percent of the time. He's usually is the poster to scoop all their basketball commitments and other team news etc.

Sounds like the Kansas program is imploding...

I'd take Peters in a heartbeat. Capel has been in on him for a long time now and he is a high character kid per the Dallas guys that I have spoken too.

Daze,

Could you shed any light on this rumor?

I just talked to someone inside the Kansas program and they said that this rumor is definetely false. The quote was "Bill Self likes Zach an awful lot." Kansas has enough talent to where even if Zach didn't pan out, they would be OK.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Zach though not a superstar fits Bill Self's system to a t. Big man that can run and pick and pop. He's a lot like a Bookout type player. He'll be a good 4 year guy. Plus he's julius randles buddy. LOL

There is no word here that indicates Zach is looking. He will be playing on a VERY high profile team this summer, so the potential for further exposure is there if he wants it, but all indications point to his being very happy with his decision at this point. Long summer ahead. I think we'll know much more come July.

I wouldn't be shocked if Self doesn't decide to revisit this commitment, but that's not totally unheard of with early commits. Zach can definitely play at the Big12 level given the right set of circumstances, though I don't think he will live up to the huge potential he possesses and become a program difference maker.

He doesn't seem to be driven like a dominant player has to be. That, coupled with the fact he is a year older than his classification, would be enough to keep me from being surprised, if the rumor did have some degree of validity.

Put it this way, I'm POSITIVE Bill Self and his staff will be watching Zach all summer long. Remember, in addition to continuing to evaluate Zach's progress, they are hot after Julius. To turn Zach loose at this early stage, would not bode well on that front!
