Kansas, Oklahoma still tied together [Lawrence-Journal World]

Good article. I was for sure 1988 would be mentioned. Nice not to have to read that.

Many of you youngersters don't realize how big KU basketball was back when Owens was the coach. KU, KSU, and later MU had big fieldhouses that no one else did.(No 24/7 ESPN/Fox/Local cable, etc. No Twitter and such nonsense. Everything was about that visual visit). Remember, OU, OSU, and others were basically playing in broom closets. Walking recruits into AFH had a huge effect on their decisions. Then once you attended a game there it was a no brainer(still, IMO, the hardest play to play a game). Owens, Jack Hartman(Kruger's coach), and Norm Stewart were the deans of the league for a long time. That was one reason fans had such fits when OU won in the late 70's and then of course with Billy(and Johnny Orr at ISU) as they brought the Big 8 out of the barn ball, walk it up, four corners mentality and into the basketball world.
