Kelvin, come home.

Kelvin was the perfect fit for ou . Not to mention the highest career winning percentage ever at OU.
Kelvin was hands down the best COACH ou has ever had .He won 20+ games for like 9 seasons ina row .
Who cares if he didn’t have the best personality , it’s not like he came over to eat at your house every week .I met him several times and he was alway

The “Calvin “ haters will alway hate .

Tubbs is hands down the best coach OU ever had.

From 1947 to when Tubbs was hired, OU made the NCAA tourney 1 time. Now, part of that was because of the way the NCAA tourney was structured, but the point still stands.

What is it with the Sampson Love Fest !! He broke NCAA rules & put not 1 but 2 schools on probation.I always thought his style of basketball was boring & he had the personality of a cold turd on a paper plate.PS.before I get ripped his teams did play hard but so do many other teams.Go Sooners!!!

AMEN!!!! Finally some common sense! OU was brutal too watch under Sampson

I enjoyed watching Tubbs' and Sampson's teams, for different reasons obviously.

Sampson is NOT the best OU coach ever.

Billy Tubbs is the best OU coach in history. Billy Tubbs made OU basketball great and he made OU fans dream of winning a championship. Sampson made OU all about winning 20 games and making the tourney, usually losing in the first round.

Pretty sure Kelvin has as many FF appearances as Tubbs.

My problem with Tubbs, and now with LK, is too many stinkers. Too many seasons where we didn't make the Dance. They both won 72% of their games at OU. Tubbs had more really good seasons, but more stinkers. Kelvin was more consistent from day 1. I like consistency. MAYBE (I'm not really conceding this) Tubbs had a better shot at winning at NC, but I don't like the constant ups and downs with his program. Kelvin's program was nearly always consistent with the previous season or getting better (for the most part).

Sampson also had the luxury of gaining 6 conference games against Baylor, A&M, and Tech when each stunk or was mediocre, to add to 1 game each against Nebraska and Colorado (typically mediocre teams as well).

I think that argument goes both ways though. Tubbs just used those extra games to load up on OOC patsies a lot of the time.

I'm sure, at the end of the day, the schedules were probably fairly consistent.

I was just looking that up. OU's OOC schedule under Tubbs was so much harder than Sampson, but Tubbs' teams had fewer conference games.

It should also be noted that in the Big 8, there were 14 conference games and in the Big 12 there were 16.

OU's OOC schedules between '84-93 were excellent with games against teams like UNLV, Duke, Syracuse, Arizona, Illinois etc. Tubbs' teams didn't shy away from playing a hard OOC.

Kelvin only left because he saw how little support he was getting in the NCAA affair. When your boss admits that he had known about the investigation for a year and hasn't told you, you kind of get the idea that you aren't on solid footing.

Tubbs was the best at OU. Kelvin was second. Both took OU to higher levels than it had been, levels in which we were competitive with the best. Tubbs had done it. Kelvin was still building.

NCAA? Again, have they ever shown an ounce of integrity? Talk to me about USC, Penn State, NC, Kentucky, Nebraska, and multiple other programs. Explain away girls being pushed down stairs and beaten up. How about girls and boys being raped? Oh. It isn't the NCAA's role to prosecute crime. Might it be their role to penalize institutions for covering it up?

Now, once you clean it up, then you can address the recruiting issues of telephone calls.

Kelvin is a very good coach but a jerk.

He does have an arrogance about him but his personality was good for the players. I used to talk to him a lot of years year when he came here to KC for the tourney. He knows some of my relatives who are bball coaches. I would always tell my wife that I probably wouldn’t want to be good friends with him but I like how he coaches.

Kelvin was the best COACH ever at ou . He may not have recruited like Billy or ran as a desirable system , but no one got more out of his players .
Again his winning percentage is still #1 at ou .

Kelvin has had huge success (respectively speaking )at three separate schools WSU,OU,and Houston .

I love Billy , more than any basketball coach we have ever had or probably will have . Saying that for ONE game I would take Kelvin ina heartbeat .

Sampson never won a conference title. He did win the weekend tourney 3 times, but never won a regular season title. Most of his seasons were 20 wins and first round loss in NCAA and never had a chance for much more. He had a few really good seasons, but most of his teams were handicapped and about 2-3 players short.

Kelvin cant coach here you guys, his son is on staff.

Unfortunately your argument falls flat because recruiting is a huge part of any college coaching job. And Sampson’s NCAA record and propensity of losing in the first round of the tourney hurts your 1 game argument. Even at Houston his teams have lost twice in the first round of the NIT.

And Tubbs had even more success at Lamar, OU, and TCU. Heck, he won multiple tourney game while coaching at Lamar and even made it to the Sweet 16.
