If we make a deep run in the tournament, I sure there will be a piece on how Khadeem is facing the same challenges his grandfather faced 50 years earlier. What a sad commentary on the world.

Let's not go that far. What those frat stars said was bad, but that team went through so much more than a few people chanting.

Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't saying it was the same thing. I'm saying we will see a story on it. And it is sad that that is how the media will spin it.

It is the exact opposite of what his grandfather faced.

His grandfather had just a handful of people supporting the team and everybody else against them. There were actual threats and violence.

Today, there is only a handful of people against them and everybody else is on their side. There was no credible threat and no violence

I agree on the premise, but disagree for the reasoning.

They are different. The UTEP team faced overt racism. What continues to occur now is covert. Good, upstanding people, who don't even believe they have racist thoughts, will say things that are not enlightened. I see and hear things that shock me at times.

We walk around in a bubble without realizing the subtle things that blacks in our country experience.

It is better, but each of us can do more to improve it. It starts with trying to diversify your experience so you can understand the perspective of others.

Excellent post.
