Wondering about all these kids turning pro, the other day Mark Cuban (who I know likes to talk) basically said that the NBA is going to shut down. The majority of the owners will make more money on strike next season than they will having actual games because the television money is guaranteed.

He said that the NFL lockout will look like nothing compared to the NBA one the owners are going to have. If you believe that then if your all these guys why are you declaring for the draft?

That's why a lot of college football players didn't leave early this year because they knew the NFL was goign to be on strike.

The NBA wants what the NHL got when they went on strike. NHL got 22% reduction in salary. It could be a long season for sports fans.

The reason some are declaring is to be drafted in the 1st rd, and get that 2yr contract, 2nd rd guys are out of luck...

Cuban should probably shut his mouth. Statements like that can be used by the NBAPA down the line to show a lack of good faith bargaining. Course, Cuban has been staying stupid things in the media for the last decade, so I don't know why it should come as as surprise that he's at it again.

If 22 NBA teams are in fact losing money then they do need to reduce salaries some..but I have my doubts.

Forget just reducing salaries... the NBA needs contraction. Cut 2-4 teams, then give each remaining team 1-2 extra roster spots (keeps roughly the same number of players in the NBA). The NBA will be better with the better players a bit more concentrated without teams like the Cavs or Nets just horrible (not saying contract those teams).

Rookies probably aren't too worried about the lockout. Sure, they may have to wait a few months before their first real NBA payday, but they'll still be able to take money from shoe companies and things like that. It's not like they'll go homeless if the NBA doesn't have games right away. They'll still be in better shape than most Americans.
