According to the broadcasters last night, we were up to #1 in SOS in five of the seven polls (I didn't know there were seven rpi polls). I notice that we are down to #2 in SOS in realtimerpi SOS today. We played Iowa State, ranked #119, in Norman. We beat a lowly-ranked team in Norman, and we fell from #23 rpi to #24. Both our SOS and rpi went down.
So, we host #229 Texas Tech in Norman. We may fall to #3 SOS after this one. We may win by thirty and fall out of the top 25 rpi. There is no way that we win in the rpi with this game.
Curiously, it may well give us enough wins to get Creme to include us in his brackets. But, it hurts us with everyone else. We may get more out of a loss to Texas in Austin. Of course, a win over Texas in Austin would do wonders. We might get a #4 seed.
What are the chances? The one thing that has emerged a bit as this team has found roles for everyone is that we have a way to work through droughts. With Vivi on the bench, we still took a 38-35 halftime lead, even with Iowa State hitting threes. Ana wasn't hitting. But, Maddie and Gabbi had their moments, and Shaina took off. She seems to like it when there is nobody in the middle to get in her way. You really don't know what she is going to do. If she survives turnovers, she is a huge asset. Shaina only had two turnovers last night (OU had nine). That and fouls often give her problems. Not last night.
Then, when Vivi got back into the game, we had some beautiful entry work. I often worked because the people making the entry passes had to be respected. Maddie is our leading three-point shooter (in conference play). Gabbi had a good night. Shaina finds a way to get into the lane. All must be covered. Penzo just finds a way. She could find a way to get a pass past a guard at Fort Knox. Even with Ana having a bad night, there were enough weapons. When she has a good night.....
We have become that type of team. The pieces find a way with their flexibility.
