After watching this team over perform all year I feel that this team has no limits. Because of how they have performed I believe that it has something to do with coaching and personalities of the players. I believe Kruger's conviction to recruiting good kids really reflects on this team. I really hope we don't loose any of the coaches we have now because of there determination of getting this type of kids we will only get better.

It has everything to do with coaching. Players have to do things Kruger's way. If they don't like it, they will be shown the bench and/or the door.

OU's last coach was a freaking joke.

Steve Henson has been an assistant with Kruger every year since 1990 except for 2003-04 except for the 2002-03 when he was with USF following Kruger's firing by Atlanta. Lew Hill is completing his tenth season as a Kruger assistant. I suspect it would take a head coaching opportunity to get either to leave Kruger. Perhaps a top five assistant job would appeal to them but to me it seems doubtful.

Chris Crutchfield has only been with Kruger for the three years at Oklahoma and I have no opinion on him not knowing his career aspirations.

I envision this staff staying together for at least 2-3 more year after which head coaching opportunities may come to the staff. Especially Henson.

Would in 2-3-4 years whenever LK gives it up... Would you want/trust/be excitied about Henson or Hill taking over?

I think it's farther out than even 4 years, but probably.

I hate saying yes, b/c a lot can change in 4 years. But right now, I think I'd be okay with Henson being the man.

Henson was an awesome decathlete in college and was by far my favorite Big 8 player NOT FROM OU of all time. Loved watching him play, he was a wizard with the basketball at PG for KSU and fun to watch.

I would love for him to be the next head coach. I think he would be awesome, but if KSU opens anytime soon they will come after him. Not sure he would take it but since it's his alma mater you never know.

I'd be thrilled if Henson was still around and wanted to take over after Lon was done.

One thing I remember Spangler saying was that Kruger has so muh repect for his players that you want to play for him...that caught my attention. Usually it would be said that the player has so much respect for the coach that they want to play for him/her, but it was just the opposite.

I thought that was very telling about Kruger's relationship with his players.

I have no inside information, as I'm not personally acquainted with either Kruger or Henson. But from what I see and hear, I believe Steve Henson is like a son to Coach Kruger. They've been together almost continuously since Henson's days as a player at KSU.

If Henson is still part of Kruger's staff when Lon gets ready to retire (whenever that is), I can see Kruger lobbying hard for Henson to be picked as his replacement.

And with his pedigree, Henson has got to be ready for a head coaching job.

My only thing is, can Henson recruit? Since they've been here I haven't heard of one recruit that he was responsible for signing, or was the main recruiter on. That doesn't mean there's not some, but I usually hear Crutch or Hill as the main guys... I think in college basketball you obviously need assistants that can recruit but it seems that the head coach needs that ability maybe even more than in football...

Henson did apply for the FGCU job that the Self assistant got so I guess he would like to be a head coach sooner than later.

McNeace.

Interesting...

No offense to your assertion about Spangler OriginalSooner but I think Spangler was coming to OU regardless of the main recruiter.. But, I guess that's fair.

I agree. It wasn't me that mentioned Spangler.

Knowing the family as I do, that's not all true. Yes he wanted to come to OU but if it wasn't what he wanted he would not have came for there was some other places on the table. It was Henson who sold the deal.

If any of our assistant coaches want to be the head coach some day, I would prefer that they got themselves a head coaching job, built a resume, and then came on back. I like them all.
