Kruger in NYC again watching Isaiah Cousins

I haven't seen anything official that calls him a point guard. And I've seen very little that calls him a combo-guard, though that is probably a decent description.

ESPN calls him a versatile swingman with good size and a strong wing. That doesn't sound like a pg to me. I'm guessing Hornbeak is much more of a pg option then Cousins. ESPN also says that Cousins needs to improve his handles. Might be an old scouting report since Cousins has just "come on" in the last few months, but I actually like both Hield and Hornbeak to contribute more next year.

Actually, the article posted above refers to him as a point guard:

And leading the hierarchy is 6-foot-4 senior point guard Isaiah Cousins.

Mount Vernon’s semifinal win over CBA wasn’t the best game for Cousins, averaging 16 points per game, as he finished with only six points. But he had seven assists and three steals.

“He didn’t shoot well, but he’s elevated his game so much,” said Cimmino, who added it felt like Cousins had “a dozen” assists.

He was also running the offense in a short video I saw (can't remember where). I don't know if he could be called a true point guard. But a 6' 4" guard who can play the position would be a nice addition, especially if he can score from the perimeter. Wish we knew more about this kid!

Fair enough, I didn't go back and read that one, but most of the others I've found on my own refer to him as a wing.

Often the best player on some of these HS teams "runs the point" just so he can get his hands on the ball as often as possible. Keith Clark ran some "point" for his HS team. I wouldn't let that sway you too much. It appears to me the kid is a nice physical specimen, but fairly light in the skills department. I know who is recruiting him, but I just don't see him doing much for us next year.

I'm not saying don't recruit him, sounds like a good project guard that should at least be able to come in and play some defense on the wing. But I think expecting him to contribute more than the two frosh we have coming in is a mistake, based on the info I've been able to find.

I would rather see OU get a 3 point shooter from juco. A kid like Michael Neal or Tim Heskett would be huge for this team.

Couldn't agree more. Neal is the perfect example of what I'd be looking for.

Just as I suspected, looks like they are recruiting him as a PG.

Hop on board, Isaiah. We need ya!

I still don't think he plays point at OU. LK may feed him that line that Stoops feeds kids when he knows he wants to move them, but given our current roster, what I know of Cousins, and who we're in on for the 2013 class, I don't see it. The kid will be a 2/3 that can handle it like a 2/3 should be able to. Nothing wrong with that.

Why not? Does his game not translate well enough?
All I see (as his competition) is a senior starter that is competent but marginal offensively. A senior backup that is inarguably marginal, almost across the board. And nobody else. He could compete for minutes right away, especially with the '2nd squad' and have a year up on any true freshmen the following year.

Granted, I don't know much about him or his game, and I don't know what we have in store for 2013. But I do know that at the moment, there are 5 returning players for '13-'14. So between this Spring and next year, we'll need to sign up to 8 players. That's my main concern. Having to sign too much depth in one class. And of those 5 known returning players, 4 of them are 2's or 3's.

LK doesn't exactly have the luxury to toy around with recruits as Stoops might. As you know, Stoops has quality players beating down his door. All that said, you could obviously be right. I just see a need at backup PG - next year.

NYC reporter on twitter says Cousins indeed did make his trip today to OU. Also said he doesn't have any other visits schedule as of today.

Seems like he would be a good player to steal away from the East Coast.
