An Open Letter to Sooner Fans from Lon Kruger
December 02, 2014

Dear Sooner Fans,

We need your help!

We started the season with a strong November by playing a tough schedule to challenge our guys. We did a lot of good things, but we also know there are areas where we need to improve. We like this group. They play hard and together. And we are committed to getting better throughout the season.

This is where you come in. We’ve seen some great growth in attendance over the past couple of years for our premier home games. And we’ve seen some growth already this season, particularly with the involvement of OU students. In fact, we’ve made several enhancements to our game day environment. Now we’re asking you to help us take the next step by turning out the largest December basketball crowds OU has seen in years.

We play four home games this December, starting with a crucial one this Friday night (Dec. 5) against Missouri at 8:30 p.m. as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. It’s the night before the Bedlam football game and we need the Lloyd Noble Center filled and rocking. (As you know, when the LNC is full, it gets LOUD!)

Please plan on being at the game early this Friday and making a lot of noise. And, if you cannot make it to any game and have season tickets, PLEASE find someone to use them or donate them to a local elementary school through our Sooners Give Back program (more info is available here – it’s easy). Unused season tickets is actually our biggest attendance challenge at this point. And only you can help us with this.

We hope you understand how critical this is to our program. We’ve made some good strides in our time here at OU. Our young men are growing off the court, we are seeing results on the court and our recruiting is going well. We’re excited about the next few months as well as the next few years of Sooner Basketball. However, we need your help to keep growing this program to where we all want it to be.

Thank you for being involved and for takingNOTICE. See you – and hear you – at the LNC in December.

Boomer Sooner!

Lon Kruger

@OU_MBBall @LonKruger lower ticket prices and it might fill up. Not paying 20-30 bucks for 2 hours of entertainment

What a joke..the price is not the issue.

Kruger is right about the donor tickets being the biggest problem. How hard is it to find someone to go to the game? Donate that sumb1tch.

If I had chosen to go to OU instead of pursue an athletic career, you be damn right I'd be in a seat every game...this is a good basketball team why do people not notice this?

You can rest assured that is NOT a fan, in spite of what they are trying to make people think! :facepalm

I know an Isaac House, He is a OU grad and former Ruf Nek, oh yeah, he is/was a major douche. Haven't seen or talked to him in years.

Just looked up the Twitter handle, sure enough, it's him!

I have 2 tickets for missou I'll mail to the first address I get. I can't go. Too late to donate on the site......

You can always use ticket sharing and e-mail them to someone up to 4 hours before the game.

I think there is one reason for why attendence is terrible and it needs to change now. Hell they could correct it during the season even..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

ORANGE SEATS!!!!!

If anybody has extra tickets, let me know. I'll be coming down Friday with my wife. We will just buy cheap tickets at the door if not. Thanks.

Good for Kruger for calling out the non-student section fans. The student section has both fairly and unfairly gotten plenty of criticism the last several years, but it's often the "old people" seats that remain mostly empty. If you can't get your old football lovin' a** up to get to a game, give them to someone who will go and who will probably stand up more than twice a game.

It's difficult for me to express how much I loathe the anti-old people posts one encounters here on occasion and frequently on the football boards--especially given that it was the emotional and financial support of these old folks that got our athletic programs to the level we enjoy today.

I'll just have to take satisfaction, I guess, from the fact that those making these posts will soon enough (if they're lucky) be old folks themselves and they too will be forced to listen to the yammering of arrogant young fans who think there's some sort of nobility and inherent value in being able to stand on your feet for a couple of hours.

Give them youngins' a kick in the tail for me, too, Skyvue! :)

Seriously, I doubt if Soonerman or anyone who might have pointed an accusing finger at the "old people," meant it as an insult. I think they're referring to the same people Kruger called out; donors who purchase tickets to reserve seats but rarely use them. Most are indeed members of an older generation.

I do know that the seats around my season tickets (lower level) are never used except big games. I am assuming the seats owned by a ticket agency or scalper. When they are used they are always different people.

I don't mind because I will buy my children 5 dollar kids seats and bring them down. The yellow shirts never stop me.

Nor should they. After the first four minute timeout (I think) everything is open seating unless the season ticket holder shows up to sit in his assigned seat. If you are sitting in a ticketholders assigned seat merely move to one that is vacant.

Skyvue does a really good impression of a crotchety old man at the LNC. :D
