How many times has KU benefited from upsets in the NCAA Tournament. They play a 10 seed tomorrow. If they win, they play Dayton, an 11 seed. They could literally be in the Elite 8 having played a 15, 10 and 11 seed.

I know this happened for them in 1988 and around 2004.

I think the lower seeded teams are closer to their level now than they were then.

Did the same thing when they beat us with Danny Manning. Also got to play the final in Kansas City

Our 2003 Elite 8 run had the following road:

16 seed South Carolina State (71-54)
8 seed California (74-65)
12 seed Butler (65-54)

Plus, remember this: our last two trips to the Final Four were secured with victories over:

6 seed Villanova (78-59)
12 seed Missouri (81-78)

Long story short, we've had plenty of luck with upsets.

I think our 2nd win in '99 that sent us to the Sweet 16 was like that as well.

This. Plus, let's give ourselves a chance to have "luck" by winning a game or two first. Sometimes, luck finds those who create it for themselves.

Not to mention 2000 (I think) when we could have made the final four playing no one higher than a six. I believe Purdue was the six in our region.
