Saw this post on another board. Makes a lot of sense......

Is it any coincidence ku gets homecooking in b12 play then choke in the tourney when they get no help from the refs?

They certainly got plenty of help from the refs in '88...sorry, couldn't resist...probably should have gotten over this loss by now :) . Still, I remember making an unfortunate prediction right after that game. I was watching Danny Manning celebrate, and this is what I yelled to at my TV: "You're going to fall flat on your face in the Olympics because you're not going to get away with the $#@% you got away with tonight!" Be careful what you wish for :( .

Has KU really choked in the Tournament? According to Wikipedia they are 6th in Championships, 5th in final game appearances, 4th in Elite 8 appearances, 4th in Sweet 16 appearances, 4th in NCAA appearances, 5th in NCAA wins and 5th in NCAA winning percentage. How is that choking?

They probably have more "bad" NCAA losses then any top team over the last 10-15 years.

Well, KU is almost always a very high seed and quite often a 1 or 2 seed so when they don't make the Final Four people jump on them for choking. I believe it kind of goes with the territory of being good for so long. I won't buy into the belief that it's the refs that made KU so good as if you take time to look at the #'s Missouri is the one benefitting from calls home and away (like I said that is based on # not opinion) and yet KU still is going to finish ahead of them.

Remember when the argument was that it was because they played in the North division and thus got an advantage without a Round Robin? Well that's shot out the window this year not to mention the former N teams dominating the league. I have not issue giving credit to Kansas and just admitting they have a great program and hopefully OU will get back soon.

MU benefits from not fouling, not home cooking.

Numbers mean nothing. If you watch the games, it's obvious refs call things differently in Allen Fieldhouse.

No its really not shot out the window at all. OU, Texas and Oklahoma State are not what they traditionally have been since the inception of the Big 12. The many years that folks such as myself were talking about KU's built in conference advantage were very real. We are talking playing terrible Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas St two times each season...and Mizzou and ISU were only good for some of that time period. It has only been during the last couple of years that the "divisions" have equalized. And yes, it is not even close that the North has been better than the South these past two seasons.

Yep, you beat me to it. The top 3 teams in the Big 12 were usually KU, OU, and either UT or OSU. Those three teams, sans KU, are down. I'm guessing this year the #2 and #3 teams in the conference finish with more losses then in most years. Some will say that shows balance. I think it shows how "average" the top of the league has become. Those old OU/OSU/UT teams would have killed Mizzou and Baylor.

I agree. Very good post.

Thats why the NCAA tournament is the best b/c it doesn't matter if you dominated your conference or was the best team during the regular season...if you don't bring your A game...you will be going home.

KU has also always been deeper than any other team in the conference even when they were not as good as a few other teams in the conference.

Maybe you get more fouls called if you drive and go inside instead of settling for jump shots in the second half. MU doesn't get home cooking? I figured you would have seen some games in Columbia. Quit blowing 19 point leads. I'm freaking sick of both KU and MU fans crying after these games.
