I looked it up a couple of weeks ago.
The Tiny-gate penalty only lasted this year ('11-'12) - reduction of one scholarship.
So we should be back to the full 13.
The only question I have is; why on Earth would we not sign two, rather than one?
Would it just be a case of not burning a scholly in desperation? I can understand that.
Lon isn't going to cut Arent, IMO. Looks like we're already struggling to sign (get a commit) from an additional player. I can't imagine grabbing someone this late in the game would be much of an improvement over - even an experienced Blair, as poor as his play is.
So there will be 6 open scholarships next year.
And add another, making it 7, if we don't sign two players (rather than one) this spring.
1) We need a backup PG. Not just because Blair can't cut it, but Blair and Grooms
are gone after next year. Can you imagine the quality disparity having to sign six guys in one recruiting season? A servicable JUCO PG would be ideal.
2) We need another Big. Fitz, Osby, Arent - all gone after next year. Leaving our depth chart for Bigs as M'Baye and nothing else. JUCO or HS senior, doesn't matter.
I think anything short of adding at least two 'competent' players at those particular positions is a huge disappointment.
