Less Doolittle better OU

Our downturn started when his min jumped up

Now tonight we win when his min are down. He is a very good player but this team has been in sync and he messed that up a little bit

We definitely lost a flow when the lineup got mixed up with his minutes. His own fault, he should have never cheated and let Manek slip in there and take his spot.

Great take! :facepalm

He's pretty clearly 1 of the best players on the team. But today wasn't his best game so...

He makes our offense stall. He’s not a shooter and I’ve always said that he can’t finish at the rim. He’s just kind of an odd fit, but He helps us on defense and rebounding

He looks totally out of sync on offense. Clearly doesn’t know what his role is supposed to be. Looks tentative too. Lots of rust.

Wrong. He wasn't in the game today for two reasons:
His offense isn't quite where it needs to be.
KU was running primarily a 4-guard lineup.

We had a small lineup/rotation that we were comfortable with tonight because we had to account for KU's shooters on the perimeter. Doolittle HAS to play against teams with size (WV, Texas, Baylor) because he is our most physical player and interior defender. His strength isn't guarding the perimeter....it's guarding the big guys inside.

I agree that his game isn't where we would like for him to be, but to suggest our team being out of synch due to his increased minutes isn't looking at the near the entire picture.

I disagree.

However, I do think both Kristian and Kam have a tendancy to play ISO ball. Brady and Christian James fit better with Trae right now. Hope Doo and Kam get it figured out by tourney time.

Interesting because Doolittle had excellent +\- numbers, last I saw.

As of one week ago....
Conference: James 40, Young 37, Odomes 29, Lattin 24, Manek 11, Doolittle 7, McNeace -5, Freeman -21, McGusty -23, Shepherd -33

He is rusty on the offensive end. He has never been a true catch and shoot guy but right now he catches and looks to see what is happening. It appears he isn't ready but I think he just isn't comfortable yet. He isn't finishing at the rim nearly as well as he should for his strength.
I like him in the lineup with Manek and James so we have shooters on the floor with him. When he replaces Manek and McGusty is in for James we don't have any spot up shooter for TY to pass the ball.

Last night it was embarrassing when Newman jumped up and just took the ball from Doolittle. He has to be playing harder and more physical than a guard. It should happen for him. If not I think the minutes will stay down.

Doolittle's role on this team needs to be as a guy who plays 12 minutes off the bench and provides some energy. Offensive rebounds and putbacks, good defense, and maybe a block or 2 to get the crowd into it. Be available for wide open 3s, and take them. He does not need offensive plays running through him, and he damn sure doesn't need to take the contested 2's he has been shooting a lot of. He can be an important contributor here, but it's in a smaller role.

i agree with all of this ... my biggest point was the doo was getting min instead of manek and odomes and that IMHO is a huge mistake

Doolittle is the 2nd best NBA prospect on OU. We need more of him, not less. Once he gets into the flow, he will be better, but that will only come with more minutes. OU will need him in March.

Totally disagree OP! Now I will say I like him better at the 4 spot...as opposed to the 3 spot. I would rather McGusty get those minutes.

that is laughable .... manek is a far better nba prospect .. doolittle has yet to show the ability to be a nba wing (the position he would have to play in the nba)

Not sure I quite agree with you on this one. In the long run, I think Manek is probably the 2nd best NBA prospect. I would then put McGust/Doolittle/McNease in the same grouping....if Odomes could develop a solid 15-20 ft jump shot, he could have a chance as well. He's a great defender and is great at taking the ball to the hole.

Taking the ball to the rim if he goes left because he cannot go to his right whatsoever.

must agree with boulder here.
