LK vs Capel in recruiting

No. Your argument is that Capel had a bad win/loss record, therefore every player on the roster was bad. His argument, correct me if I am wrong WT, is that Capel had a bad win/loss record, therefore an indeterminate portion of the roster is bad. You are completely ignoring coaching and team in your argument.

It wasn't just Capel's won lost record. It was the players record too. I've never said everyone on the roster was bad. There seems to be a consensus that Osby is a good player. I'm in on that too. Cameron showed alot of upside for a true freshman on a team with not much help. I'm high on him too. I'm talking about results. Not hopes and dreams and if's and but's.

The question of whether or not someone is a good recruiter, or bench coach, or manager of a program is answered on the floor on game day. With that standard, Capel didn't bring in one "Oklahoma" caliber player. If you want to give him some credit for Blake, fine. If he had, his last two teams wouldn't have lost so many games. And looked so bad doing it. Krueger has a self-imposed ceiling. Remember, he doesn't cheat. Even with that ceiling, Krueger will do what Capel could never do. Bring in players that make the program better.

Those mean pretty much the same thing to me. Maybe you didn't mean them that way?

Moreso that the won/lost record is a reflection of the abilities of both the coaches and players.

I don't disagree. I just wasn't willing to apply your logic to every single player without regard to coaching. There are clearly some players on the team that aren't "OU caliber," some that are and some that might be with the right coaching. We may not know which is which for another two years.

Who did Capel not go after that you all wish he would have? I just want 1 name of a player that he did not attempt to get that you all seem to wish he would have.

There is no way to have this debate. The people that wanted Capel to recruit kids like this will point to NJCAA stats, and say he'd have been better than a guy like Early, or Neysmith. Fact is, there really isn't any way to prove that. It isn't like we're going to the east coast signing nonranked HS players that will likely go to NJCAA b/c they don't have any better offers, so why should we sign kids like that from home? It's easy to pick out the kids having some success now, it's much harder to find them beforehand, as seen by the fact that Mcgee didn't have any better offers.

We won't have enough data on recruiting for years. And recruiting rankings should always be based off of how the players perform on the court. Capel's recruiting for the most part didn't excel there.

We can have this debate the same way I have all debates... by me winning.

Its not justified to pick a player from a class that Capel has no part of. If your going to complain then pick a player during his 5 years here. If McGee wasn't recruited here then that falls on Kruger.

Maybe I don't understand recruiting, but I'm pretty sure that recruiting for the 2011 class started before April, when Kruger was hired.

If Capel isn't at OU to bring in a 2011 class then why would even matter to throw out a name where even if he did recruit him...he wouldn't be around to bring him in anyways.

I think the point was Capel didn't recruit him out of HS, not that he didn't recruit him last season out of JUCO (which probably wasn't even possible, since most JUCO's need two years before they can leave, I think).

Here's what I expect:

1) I expect Kruger to be able to do a better job of gauging the character of the recruits.

2) Due to being from this part of the country originally, I expect him to have good contacts with high school and jc coaches.

3) Due to his varied coaching experience, I expect him to put his teams in a better position to win games. This, in turn, will help him in recruiting.

I don't expect any miracles. But, he inherits a fairly veteran team that should be sick of losing. Hopefully, that adds some motivation for them.
