Looks like we dodged a bullet with Gillispie

Just read it, wow.

Rom and sooner23, what say you?

Thank goodness we didn't hire this buffoon! I'm sure the word was probably out there already due to his lack of offers and taking a job for $700K when just a few years ago he would have commanded millions. TT gets what they deserve IMO!

Who would you rather have right now, Gillisipie or Frank Haith?

Prior to this month, Gillespie seemed to have much more baggage than Haith.

Agreed.

The question is a tough hypothetical... I wouldn't want to deal with neither of them with all their baggage.

But if I had to choose, it would have to be Billy G. He at least has won at a high level as a head coach.

The thing is, though, that you're not really comparing Gillispie with Haith. You're comparing Gillispie to the hole Haith is (likely) to leave right before the season.

So the question should really be: Gillispie or no one in September (with eight vacant scholarships for 2012)?

Aren't you the one that proposed the hypothetical of Gillispie vs. Haith?

By the way, I like your avatar Sawyer. Pretty catchy.

Yes, but in that hypothetical you're comparing a coach with previous drinking problems, current major financial issues and a general jerk persona (a recipe for disaster in so many ways) vs. a coach with a likely career-ending stain on his reputation. I assumed that was implied in the original post.

If you're just comparing Gillispie as a coach vs. Haith as a coach, it's a pretty easy choice.

I missed that apparent implication. I see what you are saying now though.

And if Haith's career is soon to be over, I wonder who would be willing to take on the potential negative PR and hire him as an assistant. He seems better off in that type of role, anyways.

If/when Mizzou gets rid of Haith, he'll be without a coaching job for quite some time. Maybe ESPN is in his future.

Haith couldn't even win with paid players. It baffles me why Mizzou hired him. I think T.T. was smart to take a chance on BCG but Mizzou gets what they get for hiring him.

The ponzi scheme stuff doesn't bother me, tons of people were sucked into that crap. It is concerning how many former staffers have left.

I am happy with polished of a coach we landed and do feel for the situation now that Kruger>BCG. If we had landed some of the candidates being mentioned, you'd still hear me griping but I'm very very happy with LK. I do think BCG will have Tech winning very soon.

Sure glad I stuck to my "pass on Gillispie's baggage" position. He's a very good coach, but not worth the risks, as TTU is beginning to realize about now.

Interesting debate between UK and TT fans, though. Can't say I disagree with the Tech poster's rebuke of UK fans for their crticism of Gillispie, when their own head coach has had more than his share of shady dealings over the years. Callipari is just smarter than Billy G, and a lot better at covering his arse.

We got the best of both worlds when we hired Coach K: A great coach with great character. Texas Tech just got a good coach.

Except that he is fool to believe he is going to get 65% interest. A person with his wealth should know better than to believe that.

At a minimum, he should have a sound financial advisor that provides guidance. If it sounds too good to be true...

It's called greed.
He made his wealth coaching basketball, not as a financial whiz.
