LSU's Ben Simmons

What's embarrassing is seeing fans like yourself foam at the mouth at a guys potential and not his product on the court .

Dickie V said this guy and buddy were the best players in the country and IF he had to vote today he would probably vote for buddy ...... Probably ??

It's embarrassing to even mention them in the same sentence right now .

This player is so amazing , the next lebron ..... He can't he get his team ranked . They may not even make the big dance . That's how dominate he is in the college game . He's 20% of a starting lineup , the best in years , and may not even take his team to a playoff that 64 other teams will make .

What's embarrassing is some so called fans of the game like yourself would vote him POY over a dominating star like Buddy , because what he has a chance to become .
They would give him a college award for what he might do in the NBA.

Thank you for proving my point about embarrassing fans.

And Buddy is the obvious POY. He's also a senior.

That's for making my point about Simmons . Instead of showing facts you make excuses like him being a feshman , or having to play against the big bad sr's . Poor kid

Poor kid who will be the #1 overall pick and a multi year all-star. Oh well, Sooner1234 wasn't "impressed."

Maybe with all that money he can buy tickets to the NCAA tounrney since he won't make it as a player .

Not only was I not impressed either was Spangler . You know the 6'6 white guy who shut him down the last 10 mintues and had his bested him in scoring and boards too.

Hell if he's a multi year all star better hope Spangler isn't on the other team .

Buddy, as a freshman, averaged 7.8 pts, 4.2 rebounds, & 1.9 assists per game.

Blake averaged 14.7 pts., 9.1 rebounds, & 1.8 assists.

Simmons is averaging 19.5 pts, 12.5 rebounds, & 4.9 assists.

Being a freshman is difficult but he's having a sensational season. He is considerably better than Blake was as a freshman. Buddy is better, but the notion that he's some kind of an underachiever is beyond absurd.

Spangler is a 24 year old 5th year senior and full grown man, and a really good player in his own right. Simmons is a 19 year old freshman. And he got "shut down" for 14-9-5 on 6-7 shooting. I'm really not sure what you're going on about.

Only taking 7 shots if you are the supposed number 1 pick ..... Is getting shut down . He didn't turn down open looks and ou quit doubling a lot the second half .

Again if 6'6 guy who won't sniff euro ball out physicals you , I would hate to see what Lebron and company will do to him .

It would be illegal in 29 states .

who said he as great for a feshman , hell he would be good for upperclassman . The problem are fans who say he's the best on the country . Its a slap in the face to players that are dominating the college game right now .

No one talked up buddy as a feshman.

I'll add my 2 cents....

I wan't overly impressed with him either...but I think he played soft, his choice partly and the offense they ran. He has all the tools to be very good..and he will be.

Being the #1 pick ALREADY, apparently, I'm sure he has some "concerns" about getting hurt. Not saying he's loafing but really...if I was guaranteed to be the #1 pick or even lottery I'd def keep my future in mind.

Well said Chuck. He didn't play his best game against OU because OU is a great team and defended (ball denial, clogged lanes, etc.) him well down the stretch. I just don't understand some of our fans' need to rip the guy....especially after a "one game sample size" against the #1 team in the country.

Buddy is the best player in the country this year....but Simmons (with all of his tools) isn't far behind. And to not acknowledge that based on Saturday's result is mind-boggling to me.

To me, a play that was illustrative of what some here are talking about was the sequence on Buddy's last 3 . With LSU up two, Cousins missed a jumper. Simmons had position for the rebound, but boxed out lazily which allowed Lattin to outfight him for a tip and Buddy gathered the offensive rebound, which, in turn, led to Buddy's 3. That's not an experience vs. youth play. It's just lack of effort. And he made several lazy plays like that throughout the game on both sides of the ball.

I haven't seen anyone here deny his talent. He's second-to-none in the upside department. But whether it's attributable to coaching, Simmons being a freshman, or just a general lack of desire, these are not the kinds of plays a potential POY makes down the stretch of a close game. That's where I think a lot of people were unimpressed.

I'm not sure why it's surprising, but boxing out and court awareness tend to be the things that Freshmen don't exactly excel at, and why they don't play much unless they are all world talents like Simmons.

Simmons has dominated most of this season. He wasn't able to dominate against the senior laden #1 team in the country. A 5th year senior who is much stronger and experienced than him was able to keep him in check. Again, this shouldn't be surprising.

It was a pleasure getting to watch the Sooners play against him, and it was awesome to be able to come out of there with a W. A decade from now when we're watching both of them in the league, we will look back and remember the time that Buddy and Simmons squared off in college.

"isn't far behind Buddy" this is what I have a problem with . Nobody is ripping his potential , no one isn't saying he's a sure fire lotto pick . All of that means nothing to the college game .

He doesn't dominate , not even close . Durant dominated as a feshman, this kid isn't even close to that take over a game level .

Comparing him and a guy who is dominating ( buddy ) is a slap in his face .they aren't close , they aren't even on the same page .

His team isn't even ranked , probably doesn't even make the big dance . When's they last time the number 1 picks team didn't make tourney???

I'll even put it this way , put Buddy on that team and they probably top 15 .

You are plugging this kid on what he may be not what he is .

ill put it this way , since you are so hung up on draft grade. Buddy leads the number 1 team in the country , having to play in the best conference in the country night in , night out .......... And he's literally the on sure fire nba draft pick . No other player on this team ( current rotation ) is a sure pick to make the draft other then Buddy .

That's how dominate Buddy is .Simmons is not even close , not even on the same page , in the college game

Fair enough. But that particular play wasn't about seniors vs. a freshman. It was a sophomore out-hustling him. If I were his coach, I wouldn't excuse that kind of effort just because he's a freshman. Seriously. Go watch the play. It's pretty bad. All the stats in the world don't mean squat if you're going to just mail it in when the game is on the line.

I see the talent, but talent's not everything---at this level or the next. Simmons needs to be a lot tougher, especially if he hopes to live up to his NBA billing. In spite of the hype about him being able to play the point in the NBA, he's going to wind up in the post, and if he thinks Spangler and Lattin are "grown men," he's in for a rude awakening in the NBA.

Buddy has had 4 years to develop in college while Simmons is an Aussie with half a year to play under a mediocre coach. It will be interesting to revisit this thread in 3 years and see how they look. I expect Simmons to be an All-star talent. Just hoping he isn't buried somewhere like Philly.

No one that has watched college hoops thinks that. LSU fans even admit Buddy is better right now.

he also is a very old freshman .. he will be 20 in a few months ...

Simmons is checking out and getting ready for the NBA, it's a joke he is spending one year on a NCAA tour. People rip Calipari all the time, but do you think he would let Simmons get away with some of his half-hearted play lately? Absolutely not.

Agreed. Although it helps when the guy behind you is also getting ready for the NBA. It is a lot easier to get a group of 1 and doners to play hard than a single one imo

Agreed, it's a total joke. What good is it really doing him? Playing on a mediocre team with bad coaching that allows him to take plays off can't possibly be helping his development. I also agree with you about Calipari, the guy can coach and every time I hear him interviewed I can't dislike him, as much as I try.
